Same here Passed/On list/ Waiting to schedule PAT. So far all my testing partners have gotten the same response. So hopefully there will be a little bit of clarity coming on how the process is going to progress from here on out. Good Luck Everybody

Test proctor told me that VP Credit is applied to passing grades of the written test--- rest of this comment is interpolated from 2007 thread.

Candidates end up in one of about 20 bands band based upon written score (including VP credit). Candidates in the top x bands (for example the top 10 bands) are invited to take PAT.

Quote from powerhourcoug from last test thread in 2007:

    -----begin quote-----
From what I (powerhourcoug) understand, TFD uses a "band" system.
    So for example
110% (military preference) = #1 band (x number of candidates)
109% (military preference) = #2 band (x number of candidates)
    ...
    ...
    ...
    ...
    ...
    ...
    ...
    ...
    98.9% = #8 band (x number of candidates)
    ...
    ...
    ...
    ...
    ...
    (x score) = #20 band (x number of candidates)

    -----end quote------

After PAT the final pool of candidates are generated similarly (ie. top x amount of bands) and are invited to oral boards. Unknown if background packets play a role of getting you into the final pool. (Of course bad stuff will wash you out, and you need to pass medical etc).

Oral Boards (and I assume final Chief interview) yield the dozen or so candidates that are appointed to the academy.
Unknown if final OB scores are released (cannot find any thread that says so).
Unknown if VP credits are awarded in the Oral Boards (as it may not be a competitive examination).

    Quote from Flipper in 2007:
    ----begin quote -----
"Hiring is not in strict order of placement-there is a certain amount of leeway allowed by civil service rules.
Factors such as background,bi-lingual,EMT,etc all are considered."
    ----end quote----

If someone can add more I'd love to read it (like how many oral boards there are, and how long they are, etc...... or fill in my "unknowns" above).

Just checked; also passed. Haven't actually ran into anyone yet who hasn't passed. Wondering how many they are moving forward?

Just got my letter of pass and I'm on the eligibility list. Does anyone know if that is the "band" or my actual placement on the list due to test score?

    Thanks and good luck.

That is the band ranking. TFD does not have individual rankings

Me too. And I'm pretty sure those are 'band' numbers.

    Hi guys!

I just received my email as well. I was ranked 20 with a score of 83.

I called HR and the woman confirmed it is bands not actual ranks.

Would you guys mind sharing how you scored to get a perspective?

She also said they would send out invitations for the PAT in the next couple of weeks.

Keep plugging. I've had my share of failed exams, and low scores..... Each one helped me to start getting it right.

Oh, absolutely! I'm in a couple other processes, where I'm more confident about my tests and am planning the next trips for written test. I'm still very early in my testing career, so no worries yet, but Tacoma would have been nice!

    Default Score

I scored an 85% and am in the 18th group. I dont think the groups have a specific number of people in them. If you got an 85% you should be ranked 18 as well with everyone else who scored the same. There could be a lot of people who ranked number 1. I have taken the physical though and it's a good one.

That's exactly how the HR woman explained it to me.

    96. Band 8. Kind of bummed, thought it was individual rankings. Any more info on this would be awesome.

I find it interesting that the e-mails say very specifically "Your rank on the eligibility list is ___", and then candidates are finding out second-hand that in reality they are nowhere even close to that number. There has never been any notification from TFD to candidates about them being placed in "bands" rather than ranked individually, so the way the e-mails are worded are unintentionally getting a lot of people's hopes up. It's kinda frustrating to think that there are a lot of candidates out there celebrating right now, not knowing they are actually much lower on the list than what the e-mail indicates.
