You can add Hollywood and Tamarac to places off the list that are hiring.

I got a letter to. In the interview I asked when they said they were looking to start people, and I thought the guy said October 1st, but that seemed way soon for a big county and so I checked a calendar and saw it was a saturday. Maybe I heard him wrong.

By email do you mean on your employment profile? Or did you actually get an email to your personal account from them? I checked my employment profile and it it changed from scheduled for oral to active and eligible. If that's not what you were talking about whats your email say?

The letter was dated Aug 25, and it only states that I have been put on a eligibility list for a year and that they will be contacting the qualified canadites immediately. I also heard rumors that people have gotten cheif interviews, but don't no if that's true, just trying to confirm with others if that's correct.

First of all, deerfield merger is taking up all their resources so nothing is happening at the moment. They will be contacting us in october, with November now being our earliest start date. However it looks like there may be one more step in the process.
Also I believe there are 50 of us left after the interviews.
There are I think 24 in the first class they intend to hire.

I called about three weeks ago and they said that the conditional offer is good for one year and that they haven't put anybody on yet. The wait continues!

Not a waste!!!
I will tell you from personal experience that the MESH Test is NOT a waste of time!!!
I was hired off the very first MESH Test in 2000. I have participated is some capacity in every MESH Test given ever since (evaluator on up). I know HUNDREDS of candidates who have been hired via the MESH Testing process.
In general, people who score well on the test but fail to gain employment is usually due to a background or psych test issue. Some departments are very strict in regards to their background screening. And most people have a difficult time passing psych evaluations.
As more department begin to have veteran firefighters retire in the coming years, you will see another spike in employment opportunities. "Rumor" has it that between Miami-Dade Fire Department and BSO Fire Department there will be over 300 retirees in the next two years.
Good luck to everyone taking the MESH Test in MARCH 2012Situation dictates proceedure!
