Default Help needed for a possible job!!

Just a quick background, the reason I'm asking is I've been wanted to become a Columbus Ohio FF since the day I've decided to become a FF. And I'm ecstatic that they've decided to test again. I have a pretty clean background other than my one screwup I was fired from a hospital and unfortunately that's one of the disqualifications for the process. I've heard different testimonies from people with the same problem and some have had good luck and some not so much. I would hate to see this end my pursuit to become a member of CFD. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Well it all depends on age at the time and what you were fired for. If it's recent and you did something stupid you have a problem.

there really isnt much of a suggestion to give....be honest with them. Bottom line is this, if you screwed up and your honest and get DQ'ed then it happens. If you lie about it and somehow make it through your going to have to worry about getting caught for the rest of your career. Be honest and take whatever may be coming, good or bad.

Was there a question in there that I missed somewhere?

I think you were asking if you should include it? If so, the answer is yes. Your W2 will show that you received a paycheck from the hospital. The background investigator will ask why you did not list them as an employer. You will be terminated from the process for intentionally withholding information.

The best thing you can do is to be a model employee at your current job. This will start to help negate your negative reference from the hospital.

Good question. If you were fired for causing a person to die by forgetting to turn on an oxygen mask or not giving the right medication then yes bye bye dream job. But if you were fired because of budget cuts or something economically related then it's fine. It all matters on the reason you were discharged.

Thanks for all the insight. Yeah CFD will dq you if you were discharged from a fd or a hospital according to the civil service website. I will def put it down on the application however. Does anyone think that a possible letter of recommendation from members of the hospital would help?
