Spartan Motors Buys Classic Fire
This company did all the small and truly custom tanker and brushtruck for E-One. Should make for some interesting playmates and or bring that work back to the E-One plant as they may well use the Crimson Network for sales.
Spartan Motors Inc. this week announced the purchase of Ocala-based Classic Fire LLC, a manufacturer of mini-pumper trucks, tankers, brush fire trucks and light rescue vehicles.
"We don't have any plans to move the operation or plant at this time," said Joseph Nowicki, Spartan's chief financial officer. "Our intent is to figure out how to build on what they do."
Nowicki said there will be no changes in Classic's existing management team or staff.
"We're going to keep them in place doing what they are doing," Nowicki said. "We have thoughts of how to make the business grow even faster."
Classic employs about 50 people at its Southwest 46th Avenue plant.
"Our product is complementary to their existing product line," Classic President Jim White said Tuesday about Spartan.
White, Ron Ewers and partners began the Ocala company in October 2003.
