March 8, 2011 ó A Carlisle man had to be pulled from his car after refusing to exit it following a traffic accident where he struck a cruiser, according to police.
Kentucky State Police said Trooper Michael Wathen was issuing a sobriety field test in front of his cruiser March 5 at 12:19 a.m. on the westbound shoulder of KY 32, when the cruiser was struck from the rear.
Michael D. Jolly, 55, was traveling west on the westbound shoulder of KY 32 when his 2002 Nissan Altima struck the rear of a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Wathen.
Police said Jolly accelerated his vehicle against the cruiser after impact. Jolly refused verbal commands to turn off the ignition and exit his car and refused to show his hands.
Trooper Whitney Howard used her police baton to bust out the passengerís side window to gain control of Jolly. Trooper Wathen then unlocked the doors by reaching through the busted window. Trooper Scott Caudill opened the driverís side door and got out Jolly, who police said became belligerent and cursed at the officers.
Jolly was charged with disorderly conduct, second-degree, menacing, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, .08, and wanton endangerment second-degree on a police officer.
Jolly was lodged in the Rowan County Detention Center and released the same day.
