Hey all,
I'm looking for some insight on one interview question. I have my answer, but I want to see what others might say for this question. The question is: Are/Should firefighters be held to a higher standard? If so, then why?
Thanks for the help everyone!

Absolutely 100% yes. We are held to a higher standard than the rest of society. This is what allows us to come into people's homes and them not worry that we will steal from them.
Ask yourself this simple question:
If your mother had her jewelry on the kitchen table and the cable guy was coming over would she put it away? The answer is YES!
How about if it were the Maytag repairman? The answer is YES!
How about if it were the police department? The answer is maybe...
How about if the firefighters came into her house. Would she be worried? Most likely not.
The reason is that the public holds us to a higher level. All of our neighbors know we are firefighters and have a higher expectation of us.Paul Lepore

Thank you for the feedback Chief. It is greatly appreciated! There are so many reasons why we are held to a higher standard that I wanted others opinions to see what their reasoning was. Even with us being off duty I believe were held to a higher standard because even in an emergent situation, we are expected to act and maintain our characteristics. Were expected to be the same people off duty as well.
