Cat's Work Truck Finally Unveiled
Caterpillar's CT660 work truck, a truck that management wondered why it wasn't available only in yellow, while potential customers were asking if it was available in colors other than yellow, was finally unveiled this weekend in Las Vegas, ahead of the 2011 ConExpo-Con/Agg show. Shown first to a group of industry press, and later to a large customer and dealer group, all before the doors to ConExpo-Con/Agg opened, the new CT660, detailed in the March issue of Diesel Progress North American, is being billed as the first in what Cat hopes will be a full line of vocational work trucks.
Freightliner Back In Vocational Trucks
Freightliner Trucks has unveiled its family of Severe Duty (SD) truck models, which were on display at ConExpo-Con/Agg 2011. The new lineup includes Class 7 and 8 vocational trucks, a market Freightliner previously targeted under the Sterling brand which it discontinued in 2010. The relaunch into the vocational market fills a gap in the Freightliner truck line, which the company said it has a strategy in place to "make Freightliner as well known for vocational trucks as it is for on-highway vehicles."

About a zillion dollars!
We have had great reliability from the 3208 Caterpillar motors over the years, so if we ever have the option of buying a whole truck built by Cat, I'm sure it would receive serious consideration.."Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet.Ē

It will be interesting to see how many Cat loyalists will flock to what is nothing more than a re-badged Navistar motor powering a chassis built by IH but with "yellow" badging.

I've been reading about the cat, and it seems like a decent enough rig. It's got a big name behind it, but I will with hold my judgement until I get behind the wheel of one. It looks bulky, even more so than the International 7000 series trucks. If it handles nearly as well as it looks, than maybe we've got a winner.
As far as the Freightliner is concerned, if its anything like their M2 series than I want nothing to do with it. All the M2 series trucks I've driven were rubbish, through and through. I did get a chance to drive a new Cascadia the other day though with a Cummins ISX 600HP and Eaton Autoshift, very smooth riding truck that handled beautifully.
So again, I withhold my judgment. And until either of these prove to be any better than International, I'll stick with the trusty old corn binders.Opinions expressed by myself here are just that, mine. And not that of ANY organization or service I am affiliated with.
