Default Oriented Search - Anybody do it?

Anybody here use the oriented search method (as outlined in Skip Coleman's book - "Incident Management for the Street Smart Fire Officer")?

We do it, almost exclusively; I love it.

Just curious if anyone else utilizes it, and if they have relevant fireground experience using it.

We use it sometimes, not always. Depends on situation.

2nd floor with bedrooms running off a single hallway is a good time to use it.

1st floor with wide open space and very little room separation...not a great time.

Nothing is as unimpressive as someone who is unwilling to learn.

We use it all the time. Sometimes it is easier to do an old fashioned wall search but our primary tactic is the oriented man.

They push it pretty hard in the academy.

I personally F'ing HATE having someone trying to rip my boot off as I'm searching. I believe that by doing an oriented search, you are doing it quicker and more thorough than a standard wall search.
