Not sure if this has ever been posted, but I wasn't able to find anything
I've been looking online and came across the mini Fire Helmet Camera.
Just wondering if anyone has seen/used these, and what their opinions of them are.
I've been looking at some of the videos that people have made and they look pretty awesome.
I was also wondering, might it be against some rules of a department to post videos of responding to a call, especially with sound?

Personally, I think a helmet cam would be useful for post-hoc analysis of fireground activities but would be rather wary about posting the ensuing video in a public forum such as youtube.

There's at least one thread here somewhere on the forum on this...
As 105 said - they can be a slippery slope. Great tool for learning if properly used.
Good way to hang yourself if not.
Folks who post such videos usually neglect to take a wholistic view of the video - failing to note activities that represent potential litigation and/or violations of SOP's, laws, and a host of other things. All they see is the big picture, them being part of the whole hero thing.Opinions my own. Standard disclaimers apply.

That's what I had figured. I had read that a lot of departments won't allow them at all, but for someone like me, watching the videos is a great little taste-test of what people in the line of duty do.:-J Remmy

Our department currently does not have a policy regarding these, but our members that do have them are pretty careful. I don't know the brand, but one member has one that mounts under the brim of his helmet. The picture quality is surprisingly good. We used it in an incident critique to show a few errors and corrections that were made. Great tool when used that way. It will only take one person to do something stupid and post the video online to ruin it for everyone.
