Hello
we are a small vol dept in northern califoria. With community donations and lots of local support we were able to build a new fire station. metal building with just the basics. interior still not completly finished. we have no tax base. but lots of community support
we are in need of a back up generator, like 30KW propane fueled (19k$). we lose power very frequently in winter storms. Building is catagorized as an essential services building by the county emergency managment team.
Is a back up generater an item that may be funded by AFG?>

If you're in Ca very easy to pickup genset from DOD surplus. Options are state forester (if they work the program) or thru state surplus office.
Gensets most often available will be diesel - 1ph are 3kw, 5kw, 10kw. 3ph in 15kw, 30kw, 60kw, 100kw, 200kw and a few larger.
Some gas gensets still available.
The MEP series milspec gensets are continuous duty sets. Unlike anything at the bigbox stores or even what is typically quoted as "heavy duty".
In Ca - Barstow and Sierra are the surplus main depots but many smaller locations in CA and all over the West.

When picking up a used diesel generator, you have to be careful about emissions in CA. CARB is very strict about this and it may not be worth getting a "good deal" on a used gen.
Some businesses are having to put cat converters on brand new natural gas powered generators. Some CARB info here: http://www.arb.ca.gov/diesel/documents/atcmfaq.pdf
