Default What are the physical standards of a typical firefighter?

How many miles should I be able to run in order to become a firefighter?

There is a lot more than just running. Look at what all the CPAT requires, that will give you somewhere to start. While I was in school we were running around 3 1/2 miles a day. Its not all about strength, stamina is a major plus.

Ask LA how far away he is from a structure fire. That should be your minimum.

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

You may want to look at the Cooper standards. We know nothing about you.
Many departments that are paid have strict physical standards that will entail running 1 &1/2 miles in about 14 mins, is fair. 13:30 to 13:15 is good 13:14 to 12:40 is very good. If you are younger, these times are not as good as say someone in their 30's or 20's. Females get more time as well.
Some volly companies have no physical requirements.
Look at the Presidential Physical Fitness test to see how you rank. Then check with the dept you are trying to get on with to find out what their standards are. Then you know where you have to be.
