Default Kern county fire department interview...

Congrats to those moving on past the CPAT. Anyone have any insight about interview process? What is to be expected come interview time?

I'm in the process as well, not too sure what to expect specifially with the oral. With the number of folks in the process and the supposed number they intend to hire, this is an amazing opportunity. I plan to visit one or more stations before the oral in the effort to get as much info as possible.

    Good Luck!!

Moving on too. Congrats guys/gals. Rode with them last week and I know it would be a great Department to work for. Approximately 200 moved on to CPAT testing (per HR lady more than 200 made it). I already talked to two people who made it to CPAT and didn't make it to the test or have a valid CPAT Card. They're down 25-40 firefighters per a firefighter that works for the Department. I am sure someone who works for the Department will have somewhat of the truth. Good Luck guys/gals

I would encourage you to speak to someone from the last recruit class. They will most likely follow the same hiring process. It's pretty amazing that the list is down to 200 and they are planning to hire (according to the previous poster) 25-40. With interviews and the rest of the process still ahead, they will have difficulty filling the positions.
Good luck, this is a great opportunity.

Last academy group has been saying that the interview is a very basic format. Introduce yourself, what do you know about the dept, why do you want to be a FF, why should we hire you, tell us a time...etc. and a closing statement. should be fairly easy guys/gals. Practice, Practice, Practice. BTW Thank you Chief Lepore for the amazing book! Definitely has been aiding in my interview prep.

    Paramedic217,
Thank you for the kind words about my book, Smoke Your Firefighter Interview. From what you are describing for the Kern Ccounty interview, all of the questions are included in my book (There are over 100 questions with answers). I have listed the question, how I would answer them, and most importantly why I believe the answer is correct. In many questions the last part (the reasoning section) is longer than the answer itself. My goal is to have the reader understand WHY I answer the question the way I do. I include the culture of the fire service, the expectations of a rookie firefighter, and how it relates to the position.

It's much more than simply quesitions and answers. Good luck to you

I'm not sure how fast they update it but hopefully they do it the same day. I talked to personnel on monday and they said that they had not sent any letters as of then.

I just checked there, looks like they mailed out the results today, we should hear tomorrow or early next week.

    Good luck everyone!
