Hmmm, the only yellow lightbars I see are on wreckers and public works trucks. God knows I'd love to get rid of those stupid amber lights D.O.T. requires on the rear of the truck.

No one, including NPFA or DOT, requires amber on the rear of fire apparatus.

Funny you say that, because the state of North Carolina requires all new apparatus to have at least one yellow light in the level 3 zone on the back of the apparatus. I'm pretty sure Georgia does as well because all of our engines and ladders from '89 and up came from the factory with them because we were required to have them. All of the older apparatus were up-graded later. I'll have to look into it a little more for you. I know NFPA says something about it, though not law, it is a guideline used by the ISO folks. And ISO goes a long way towards legitimizing your department to the city admin and businesses.

Interesting that's being regulated at the state level.

NPFA requires a certain amount of light be emitted from the each side of the vehicle. It's easier to meet these requirements with amber (especially on the rear) than red, but you can do all red - it just generally requires an additional lighthead or two.

Harve, what color do you prefer on your sled pullers?

The city of Sulligent, AL has a cartoon style bucket brigade painted on the side of their red tanker.. A nice touch..

    Talking Well...........

Straight Answer - None of us are Law Enforcement Personnel........ Blue in Maryland is Very Strictly LE only. A few VFDs have a Blue Light or two on Apparatus, and that's tolerated, But a Blue on a POV and you're in deep Doo Doo.........

Other Answer - We don't need lights, we go so fast, we get there before the Light Waves do....... Just last week, I left home at 09:00 to run to Mexico City to pick up some Parts. After picking up the stuff, I stopped at a Carryout there and picked up Lunch. I got home while the Tacos were still warm........ Somewhere in the Ozarks a Sheriff is wondering what wrecked his Radar........
