Android Apps

Hey,

with all this new technology floating around these days..

was just wondering if anyone is using any android apps to aid technical rescue and the likes..

I know CMC are due to bring out an app within the next month or so, but there doesnt seem to be much else unless im missing it somewhere?

Was wondering if the ones that are planning on using such apps are more likely to use them for training or are you planning on using it on a resucue (like the pocket guides)?

I think it is nice for training but IMO not very time practical for a real time rescue. Dont get me wrong, im not trying to take a tool out of the bag but if you need this when it comes time for a real rescue it may be time to take a step back.

The CMC app is just for Apple products. (ipad, ipod touch etc) There are some knot tying apps for the Ipad too. I have yet to see anything for the Android market

I have the Animated Knot app from Grog. I have an iPhone. Not sure about droid. It's a good knot app. I might have paid for this one. Maybe $1-2. Worth the money.

Hi,

Yes to be used for training and reference materials for other members

have noticed a large number of our members tend to have flash mobile phones, and rather than printing or purchasing 30 odd field guides to suit our team, which can take up alot of room and with not everyone at the same level figured it would be easier to purchase apps which can be downloaded to use..

also prevents the field guides getting damaged and lost etc..

One thing I have done is get a PDF copy of a current SOP or field guide that is in use and save that to my phone. Not the best thing or the prettiest but it works.

Just got word from the regional paratech guy that CMC just got permission to digitize the FEMA USAR FOG. Keep you eyes open in the coming months. BTW, I have several of these files saved to my iPhone as PDFs. Not the quickest ways to access them, but it works.
