economic recession

Correct me if Im wrong. I always believed we were in recession because of medicaid abuse, welfare abuse, bad decisions by bankers, people buying more than they can afford, thus losing thier homes, wasteful spending by politicians, and bad investment practices on wall street. Well apparently the reason we are in an economic crisis is b/c of firefighters and police officers. (sarcasm on). Has it just been in the last year politicians and media are attacking us this much. I know they always have somewhat, esp politicians. But not this bad.
