I am now a past chief and the views, opinions, and comments are mine and mine alone. I do not speak for any department or in any official capacity. Although, they would be smart to listen to me.

Despite the best efforts of those who say that it is not their responsibility to assist their fellow human beings in extraordinary and dangerous situations, there are those men and women willling to step up to the plate.

To quote Marvel Comics founder Stan Lee...
    E'nuff said!
‎"The education of a firefighter and the continued education of a firefighter is what makes "real" firefighters. Continuous skill development is the core of progressive firefighting. We learn by doing and doing it again and again, both on the training ground and the fireground."

    Personal choices.

It all comes down to personal choices.

And despite my best efforts, there are those that can't seem to stop poking with a stick and simply let it go.

*groan* You are such an azzhole. This isn't all about you. No one has mentioned your name for quite a few of the last bunch of posts. Why don't YOU take the initiative and stop commenting (poking with a stick.)

You're finally correct. Most of us chose to be firefighters and do the job.

You chose to put on a snappy uniform and look for ways to avoid the job.

Talk about poking with a stick. Damn near everything you post is done with the intent to incite, agitate, and **** people off. You have been told repeatedly that you are so far off the mainstream that it is ludicrous. You have been told your overzealous safety nonsense is not what the fire service is about. You refuse to accept that to do this job properly you simply cannot guarantee 100% safety. Of course we can operate safer, but 100% safety is a ridiculous expectation if you do any interior firefighting or search and rescue in buildings actually on fire.

I have said it before and I will say it again. You are a masochistic attention whore. If no one mentions your name, you have to interject some idiotic comment, or play the victim, just so people will pay attention to you. I bet you were the kid whose Mom had to always have cookies or candy out so kids would come over to play with you.

If your personal choice allows you to stand there and let someone die, someone burn to death right in front of you while making no attempt to save them, I pity you, and frankly I am sickened by you. When untrained, unprotected, civilians show more compassion, and guts, than you do that should send a clear message that there is something seriously wrong with you and your thought process.
