    Default Ladder 51 - Movie

I bought the movie a few weeks back to add to my collection. How do you explain to your family that it's just a Hollywood movie and not entirely a real situation that a firefighter might come under?

It is a movie Pal. Just like all the others films about the fire service.

Some things we encounter but when making a movie, the producer, director and writers have to make it interesting or it will never sell.

Yes some to the stuff goes on in the engine house and at the kitchen table as in the movie. The fires for most part were real with a lot of staging, but this flick shown more accuracies than the others have.

But, it is still a movie.

Tell your family not to worry as this is how the movie folks see the fire department and much of it is a fabrication and not the real life.

This will keep them from worrying about you when you are at work.

I remember attending a premiere of the movie "Backdraft" with our Engine #17. The first thing that was asked of us was to show them the hose bed........like "That" really happens in the Fire House.....just Hollywood

"I have a dream. It's not a big dream, it's just a little dream. My dream and I hope you don't find this too crazy is that I would like the people of this community to feel that if, God forbid, there were a fire, calling the fire department would actually be a wise thing to do. You can't have people, if their houses are burning down, saying, 'Whatever you do, don't call the fire department!' That would be bad."

Maybe Ladder 51 is the three-quel to Ladder 49.

Maybe the Emergency! gang all transfers to a truck company.

LA County did have some pretty cool Snorkels back on that show.

A tiller might be cool too - Chet would make a classic tillerman!
