The Department’s Fiscal 2014 Fire Extinguishment and Emergency Response Budget decreases by $81.1 million or 6.3 percent compared to the 2013 Adopted Budget. This decrease is due to overtime funding being reduced due to the Department’s ability to hire new firefighters. At present, FDNY uniformed staffing is 519 firefighters below its authorized headcount. The Fire Department administered a new approved test on March 15, 2012, and a new class of 293 applicants is currently in the Fire Academy. The Department expects to run three consecutive academy classes of 320 recruits each year through 2014. In Fiscal 2015 the Department expects to achieve the firefighter budgeted headcount.

Yeap. Some days it's best to just hit the treadmill (i know, i know) or do an extra sesh on the stairmaster. It was super icy running today and cold as ****. Careful, everyone.

    Intake tomorrow!

It sucks and definitely tough, but I'll take it over a hot summer day

I don't want to get into specifics, but suffice to say if you **** up don't try to lie your way out of it. They will almost always catch you in the lie, and that is ALWAYS worse than the **** up.

By all accounts that guy is great and that entire news story was manufactured drama. Someone with nothing better to do must have tipped off the daily rags.

or would I have gotten a letter asking me to do something based on my lab findings?
if something was wrong in your labs there would have been a letter asking you to get more tests to clear it up. for me that letter was the first page of the results packet i received. it said 'you have been placed on RESERVED MEDICAL STATUS because of such-and-such in your labs'.
if you didn't get this 'reserved status' letter then my guess is that you're in the clear. in this context the opposite of reserved is, um, qualified!

I really do hope that does not account for all the senior guys OTJ that padded their pensions with OT for the past 5 years and are starting to retire now…

Hey guys I did the stairs today with a 55lb vest for 8:30 which is my longest time yet. I have one concern tho, my heart rate reached a maximum of 204. Is that going to be a problem when it comes to medical? I didn't feel like I was dying towards end nor was it very difficult to breathe...what can I do to decrease my max Heart rate? I am 25 y/o so I know my HR can't pass 175bpm

Thanks. I called just to double check and they said I'm medically qualified. Also, they told me to tell that to my investigator. Because sometimes they don't find out for a few days

    Might disagree with you

That said, for the rest of you.....don't worry about where you're goin. Just get through the academy. Very few people have any impact on where they go.

The first thing the job assesses is need, where are there open spots on a roster. Second is geography. They place you SOMEWHAT based on where you live.

    Old post from 2013.

Unless they decide to start running 3 classes next year? Who knows man. I hope this comes true.

The current class is technically from 2014. So the 3 classes a year may start with the 1st 2015 in june/july class hopefully maybe (Please Lord Jesus!!)

Sorry, but the City runs on Fiscal Years. This is Fiscal Year 2015. (Runs July 1, 2014 - June 30, 2015). So FY 2015 should in fact have three classes (July 2014, December 2014, & tentatively June 2015).

Eat a Greek yogurt, bra. I always prefer real whole food to the shakes.

Try coffee with mct oil and grass fed butter. You can do a workout on just that. You looking for meal replacement sorta?

Protein shakes will help repair your muscles. Which in turn allows you to lift more and make gains
