yea i see where your coming from thats why i have my name in the ems list
i dont think they will have a problem reaching 8500 like the city predicted. Between medicals, CPAT, people losing points they didn't earn, and people not wanting the job. im hoping they will reach me at 69** but I'm not getting my hopes up but i am working out everyday because thats the only thing i can control now and no one know for sure who will get called only time will tell.Last edited by steven9d3; 10-22-2012 at 10:47 AM.

Im not going to say anything that will discourage you. Workout get all you info together start saving as much money as possible, pay all your bills off and the most important wait be patient hope for the best. Im in the low 8000 my Soc screwed me but Im still pushing forward there are pleanty of Fire Departments out there and remember if you want it bad enough and FDNY doesnt call theres always military FF Airforce Army they got FF MOS too. its not what you really want but close enough you know.

How is it gonna work with the city residency credit? Does it have to be the same address for the 12 month period, or can it be more, as long as it is in the boroughs, and you have proof.

The city often projects lower numbers in situations like this. I would hope they are being conservative for the judge and everyone in order to cover themselves

Are the academy hours monday-friday, 8 hour days? For PD it was 8 hours 35 mins a day, and we built up an extra 6 days off in our time bank. Very little overtime, maybe 12 hours in the 6 months.
I only ask because people said the academy days are long and never ending... does it just seem never ending or are we building ot/time. I'd be shocked if that was the case.

Go through the medical, the psychological and make it to the Academy. Show up when they tell you and leave when they dismiss you. You'll get some O/T in every check, but don't be concerned with that. I think counting hours and stacking up O/T is getting a bit ahead.
I'm sure that I'm not alone here....but when I was in you-alls shoes, I woulda gone through the Academy for free if it meant being on the job at the end....
STOP READING THE RANT! You're not going to get much good info there.

On a regular basis? No.
Quite often, you'll be meeting outside the gates (usually somewhere around 0500) with the rest of your squad and marching in together. You arrive, move from one class to another and leave as a squad. No stragglers. If you are late, you'll be dealt with in a completely fair manner. And by "completely fair" I mean everyone will pay for your inability to get there on time. What FDsouth outlined was just one method.
Usually within the first couple of days, you will be formed into your squads. Before that, you'll be highly encouraged to ask around to see if others need to make carpool arrangements and start swapping phone numbers.
The M60 is NOT an option for you. Try looking up when you'll have to catch it to be there before 0500. While Randall's Island has some wonderful newly renovated softball fields; it is also home to a large Men's homeless shelter and Psychiatric Facility. Some of these folks will be your bus mates.
Get into a carpool. Along with traveling in uniform to/from, you'll be carrying your books (Yes, we require you to read.), lunch, snacks, drinks, SPARE SOCKS, etc. You don't want to be making this commute on public transit.
