The rumors i'm hearing now from BHS are pretty wild but I will not be celebrating anything until I get that phone call. I figured that'd probably be the case as soon as I posted the question, sorry bro. You know as well as I do that right now it's totally up in the air about how far down the list they'll go. I also plan on trying to take A/L for all of January, so barring any sick days I think I have 24 tours left (obviously not a mutual person).

You guys just joining the thread: It's only 20 posts per page, so if you want to catch up read the last 100ish pages, or find the 6019 thread and follow skyline or 1 of the other guys that tracked their progress as they got processed for the only class to be hired off that list. Worth it to get a sense of timeline and everything else. Also, if your list # is <500 and you haven't heard anything than NOBODY has heard anything. Relax and go workout. I think January is a safe bet, since I just don't see how they could possibly start to process for the next class until they are finished with this one.

I bought this one, and from what I can tell it's the same one that the department actually uses when doing its testing. It's cheap and reliable. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o02_s00_i00

I just heard that a lot of guys are dropping the ball on the medical. Most have to come back for the stairs, which I personally feel is bull**** to begin with, and some have to come back for weight check in and such. I heard the Docs have been saying that they will be lucky to fill a class of 300 with us. I think the lowest they can go is 250 guys. Anything less than that there will be no class and they will wait 12 weeks and start processing you guys and it'll be a combo class. This is ALLLLLL JUST RUMOR. Take everything that I say lightly. I still think there will be a class of 300 EMS cause most that go back for the stairs pass. I know they have been using the stairs as a test for a long time but it really is retarded. Don't get me wrong I passed just fine but I know some guys that have to go back because they were a few beats over and these guys run with me and can really run. Its all mental. Its just nerves. The whole formula on how they give you a max heart rate zone and fail you based upon no personal info such a resting heart rate, recovery rate etc etc is BS. If youre nervous, it doesnt matter if you run mile in 4:30 and your resting heart rate in 36 when you wake up, your might fail. I topped out at 160 and my resting heart rate is 36 to 42 when I wake up. Thats just what I have noticed. You can disagree with me and that totally cool. Just how I feel personally.
Anyway, when I was at CPAT it was a pretty good group of guys. I dont think anyone failed and most guys did pretty well actually. I finished in 7:20 and I was the second fastest of the day as per the proctor so some guys are crushing it. On the other hand I have been getting texts from my partner who is there today and he said everyone is fat and lazy and it looks pathetic. lol. WHO KNOWS....1000 different stories each and every day.

We have raised a lot of money so far for the NY Beach Relief Fund and if you donated and ordered a shirt I thank you. I filmed from a helicopter almost 2 weeks ago and edited a little video to pump the cause. I flew over World Trade, Coney, Breezy, Rockaway and my hometown Long Beach. Check it out and head to www.NYsea.com/nybeachrelief to see how you can help.

No joke I just showed that video to some one staying with me from rockaway, an older woman who is like my aunt. It made her really start to cry in the first 2 min, so I took the Ipad away. Video looks very professional.

I have a pretty good feeling that the city is going to get a class of three hundred come Jan. 2014. Why? Well, they haven't hired in over 4 years and they're dead set on breaking that streak. They'll get the numbers they want if it kills them.

I hope so. I am burning my time in prep. It'd be pretty ****ty to end up having the class postponed and then also have no time left. If all goes according to plan I only got 22 tours left!

I this really the heart rate monitor the fire department uses during the stair climbing test?

    Can anyone else confirm this?

No, well same thing almost. They use a Polar. Real basic model. Like an RS100, most basic model. They spray the sensor with some water and strap it to your chest (around or about) and off you go. The watch stays on the side of the step mill and they check it periodically.
