The last exam. The flood gates opened when the then UFOA president endorsed the IAFF CPAT.
Guess who retired from the FDNY and promptly recieved a job from the IAFF???
The old physical was too easy as well...but at least it was more difficult than the current one and it was competitive not pass/fail.
This job and this country are screwed with this kind of illogical regressive thinking and policy. We champion and reward the weak and incapable and punish and discourage the strong and motivated.
A loosing proposition as there ever was.

The CPAT was a joke compared to the last event. Here is the CPAT order:
* Stair Climb
* Hose Drag
* Equipment Carry
* Ladder Raise & Extension
* Forcible Entry
* Search
* Rescue
* Ceiling Breach & Pull
The Old Physical:
1.
Stepmill
5 minutes and 12.00 seconds
2.
Ladder Raise
15.81 seconds
3.
Hose Feed
18.19 seconds
4.
Hose Advance
46.33 seconds
5.
Forcible Entry
10.95 seconds
6.
Search
95.66 seconds
7.
Rescue
23.80 seconds
8.
Ceiling Hook
20 repetitions in 4 one-minute sets
For the old physical you wore 25 lb vest and a 25lb tank. Same weight throughout but for the taller guys the tank would get caught in the hose advance. Also the ceiling hook was a total of 20 reps. The CPAT is only 5.
Whether or not we take the CPAT, the Old Physical or the Navy Seals physical... TRAIN YOUR ARSE OFF!!!

Thanks, Neal. That's exactly what I was looking for.
Any of you guys who have previously gone to written exam prep classes have a recommendation? I'm guessing our best bet will be to find a free one the city is giving deep in the Bronx? The only other ones I've seen are like $450, which is worth it if the course is that good but it def feels like they're taking advantage of ppl they know will pay anything for the job.Last edited by HopefulFF; 07-19-2011 at 10:05 AM.

was just reading the join fdny page on facebook and came across two things:
1. they havent decided what the physical will be yet, it's not necessarily gonna be the cpat
2. i saw this question asked before, but to confirm, if youll be serving overseas during the exam, as long as you filed between 7/15-9/15 you'll get a make up exam.
EDIT: Read on The Rant earlier today a woman is suing the Chicago FD over the physical exam not being a reflection of the job. I'd be surprised if the FDNY didn't go with the CPAT since it is the most widely accepted physical exam given. Even if it is easier than past exams.Last edited by HopefulFF; 07-20-2011 at 10:16 AM.

No sign in necessary. I've never seen anything like this before, but I am assuming there will be some sort of wall post or something put up & people can comment on there with any Q's they have. Here is the Facebook page:
www.facebook.com/joinfdny
Obviously they'll only be able to tell us info they're ready to make available to the public, but if you have any questions that may be more specific this is a good place to ask. Better than calling their 718 # and hoping the person you get is in the mood to be helpful.

I want to know what happens when the results are the same. Is this test going to be thrown out and then hopefully they raise the age to 40??? Its nonsense. Some people don't want to run into burning buildings. Some people don't want to work either. Unfortunately for them this job requires both.
