Building on what Minerva said, rugby workouts are also a great way to mix it up. I used to play rugby and the fitness objectives are very very similar; build up your ability to run (long and short distances), build leg and core strength (pretty much above all else), and be able to perform without stopping for over an hour, which requires every type of muscular endurance.

You also may be called upon to operate a dept. vehicle. Obviously, you need a license to do so.....and a NYS license at that.

Def a no go on the NJ license that would imply that you live in NJ which you will lose your job for. Secondly stop debating how u should workout run, lift heavy, lift light , do pull-ups do push-ups do sit ups go rock climbing go biking play basketball do yoga just make sure your maxing out that heart rate and your goin as hard as possible without yakking that the perfect balance. As long as you push yourself and have a wide range of fitness you'll be alright you gotta be able to do whatever it is that makes you wanna workout everyday...personally I think you should do all of the above styles of excercise and don't worry about how u look because if your working hard and eating right it does not matter

Not trying to be a smart *** but curious what Almost there has heard. If he called the dept or the vulcans, there might be a chance they could tell him wether or not he should still be expecting to go in right away.

Anyone have any idea when CPATs will begin? Also is there any order to CPAT, medical, etc.?

Days like today make me appreciate when it's simply cold out, and not ****ing snowing and all this other bull****. I'd take 10 degrees over this nonsense any day of the week.

Nows not the time to fall in love with either assignment; with the Rock in between, its a world away. Even then its out of your hands. "The needs of the department" preface all kinds of news, and peoples wants are rarely a factor in satisfying those "needs."

That said, the best firefighters are the reliably well rounded kind.
Nothing i'm saying is absolute, assignments can always switch on the fire grounds depending on the situation. I'm simply giving an example of things that suck on both pieces. ex. high rise pack on engine, salvage and overhaul on truck.
Yes you'll get to see fire no matter what, but on the engine if your on the nozzle your job is to get to that fire. You don't have that responsibility on a truck. IJS.
But like you was saying everyone will get to see what everything is like when going thru the academy. It's just fun to talk about, thats why we're on the forum.
