For the guys that went to the Vulcan prep, in order to get in do you just tell them you're there for the FDNY prep or did you bring your exam admissions notice along as well ?

You're positive it wasn't this right? I got this email a little while ago:

    to me

Fraud alert! No one from the City or PSI, the City's testing company, is calling firefighter candidates requesting personal information. Do not provide your social security number or any other personal information to callers claiming to represent the City or PSI. Calls requesting such personal information may be a scam. why isn't this in the newspapers? I wish somebody recorded that. Imagine the outrage if the Emerald society was offering these test preps and said that at a meeting.

All you do is sign your name and pay $20. You NEED your admissions card to take the actual exam.

@LongCut...Because its not important. Have you been living under a rock? Have you been to high school or college? Taken a course called American History? Whites complaining that they are being discriminated against in America is a joke. Can it happen? Ofcourse it can but history shows what? The fact is that minorities, blacks especially were screwed over. Its like a man saying a woman raped him. Can it happen...sure. But will it get the same attention as a woman being raped by a man? No.

    Please Take our Survey

If you have not already filled out our survey, please click here to sign up for a tutorial and give us your contact information. Even if you don’t pick a tutorial session now, that’s ok - just show up at any tutoring site on any day.

We believe – as we have been told in the past – that our tutoring will be the best tutoring available at any cost! A one-time fee of $20 (just to cover our costs) allows you to attend as often as you like.

    Plan to Arrive Early!

The tutoring sessions will start promptly, and because of the large number of candidates signing up for the classes, we recommend that you get a seat early. Black firefighters and fire officers will be on hand to meet with you and answer questions 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after each session.

Also, please bring paper and pencil to the class.

    More About the Vulcan Society

Founded in 1940, the Vulcan Society has been involved in everything from desegregating firehouses in the 1940's and 50's, to helping establish the International Association of Black Professional Firefighters in 1970, to our recent efforts to help diversify the FDNY.

For decades, we have provided tutoring to Black candidates like yourself who are about to take the FDNY firefighter entrance exam. Our courses are taught by experienced firefighters and fire officers, and are based on materials from a professional fire test developer. Give yourself a leg up on the exam by studying with us.

    Thank you,

    The Vulcan Society

What do you candidates think about the interview process? Ive been going through lots of threads and it seems to be a big deal in other departments. Apparently they have "pass/fail" exams and "pass/fail" physicals. The Interview however is graded and allows a person to separate themselves from the pack. I know its an important step but being that this is Civil Service and we're going by exam score exactly how important is it? Also is the FDNY interview scored?

PS. just received my 75# weighted vest from MIRvest. I like it. Seems to be good quality too. The one thing i dont like is trying to take it off. Its a bi*#h. The head slot is'nt very big...maybe i need a smaller head lol.

Fact is we're not in 1960s Birmingham, Alabama and the civil rights movement is almost a half century in AMERICAN History books now. What LongCut said is 100% true....it's a disgrace that people don't know about that statement and FACTS surrounding the pending lawsuit. What the bigger disgrace is that journalists don't have the balls to shine the light of racism on that punk Washington because they fear he and his Vulcan cronies will turn the tables on them and brand them racists. Their argument was baseless in '07 and the only ones who took their BS cause were bleeding liberals whose white guilt and political aspirations who actually felt government agency in the 21st century was purposely rejecting applicants based on their black skin. This country was founded on the principles that everybody is entitled to a job .....it was founded on the principles that the best person will get the job.

Its ideas and thoughts like this that make me want to pull my own head off, and punt it through a window. Its absolutely important. Its important because disgustingly unethical, blatantly racist behavior like what he's describing is unacceptable and needs to be squashed forthwith. Allowing it to continue unimpeded, and with your attitude, implies that its ok.

I suspect the forum member youre calling out does not live beneath rocks, has at least completed high school, and which included American History. But I can GUARANTEE you that he's never owned slaves, seen "whites/coloreds" water fountains first-hand, told Rosa Parks where she should sit on a bus, or turned a hoseline on a peacefully gathered crowd.

That someones predecessors got screwed over decades ago is unfortunate, but who among us had any hand in it? And now you think its okay to punish people who werent even alive when the vast majority of it happened, arbitrarily basing it on skin shade??

    xxxxx

To the guys present at the session where this little rant took place, you can absolutely file EEO complaints to the FDNY
    To Persist is to Conquer.

I agree Vekdoggs75, but for 500+ years it did not apply to blacks. Do you not understand that? There was no such thing as being entitiled. "No taxation without representation." Dude they werent even considered people. That statement is a joke. Entitled..? lmao to what cleaning someones house? Hey man i dont want to argue its just my opinion. Hopefully we may one day be in the same firehouse.

Buddy by you bringing up 500 years of slavery is the exact feeling appeasement that drives me insane and has for the last few years with this case. Let me get this straight....I should feel bad and feel the consequences for things that happened wellllll before my time? Why don't we just give reparations to decendants of former slaves while we're at it. Or even better, why don't you just give your job to an African American out of the pain that you caused 500 years ago? Oh and name a group in world history that hasn't been enslaved at one point or another? I'm Irish....you don't see me knocking on Queen Elizabeth's front door asking for **** that was taken away from my ancesors? Just do us all a favor and keep your liberal yap shut when it comes to this stuff because there's alot of guys (including myself) on this form and the 6019 forum who got screwed over by those same feelings for the last 3+ years.

Under a rock? No, I have been born and raised in NYC since the early 80s. Yes I graduated from Public High School, and City College. I have taken many American History classes, thanks for asking. Rape is Rape just as Discrimination is Discrimination, don't you think the Vulcan's should practice what they preach? Why cant white people complain about being discriminated against? Do you think I owe black people something because some white people took advantage of blacks many years ago long before I was born? Your right blacks were screwed over a long time ago, but I haven't been around long enough to witness it. And in NYC? This has got to be the city that gives (hands out) the most opportunities to minorities. Please, spare me your sob story.

No a young woman who was employed by the City of New York or the FDNY called and stated that they are having practice sessions starting March 5th and would I be interested in attending. She asked what borough I was in then listed like 5 places in the Borough and I selected one then she let me choose a day, but I think there was only one time every day, for instance since my location is LIC HS they have Monday through Friday at 5PM and I think she said 9AM Saturday maybe Sunday too.

Your statement that " This country was founded on the principles that everybody is entitled to a job .....it was founded on the principles that the best person will get the job." Is invalid. It applied to one skin color. You can choose to accept that fact or ignore it. The issue isnt that you should be punished for the actions of your ancestors its that you shouldnt benefit either.

Enough of this liberal vs conservative BS. Vek has some very valid points but lets stop pretending that if you can see the side the Vulcans are pretending to defend your a socialist liberal or if you don't your a rasict conservative. As a smart man once said. If your completely conservative or completely liberal your an idiot. Taxes I'm liberal, gun control I'm conservative, when it comes to hiring I think everyone should have a fair and equal oppurtunity to test for something such as a firefighter or police officer. If you can't score well enough, maybe you didn't study or prepare as well as you think you did.

I never said these exams desire. I was speaking in general. Sorry for not clarifying myself.
