    See Im still confused about what the stay is on... every time I read something about the second circuit court putting a stay it seems like PHs will not be getting hired as of yet or at all depending on the ruling. I still think the FDNY is processing them to get them out the way just in case.

    Anyone agree, disagree? I'm not sure myself

    Hey Letssee, not really sure what you mean about people being racist, especially your future brothers and sisters. That seems like a lazy blanket term that doesn't fit 99% of the people who post on this forum let alone the FDNY. People aren't mad about any one race, they are mad about the unfairness of the court ruling and people who don't deserve spots at all cutting in line. They are upset about having their lives put on hold for half a decade. I don't think I've actually seen one negative comment about black or Hispanic people on this entire forum over almost 9,000 posts, so maybe you are reading into things and seeing racism where there isn't?

    You have a good score and congrats on that, you should be just as upset about the PH situation as the rest of us since they will be jumping ahead of you as well.

    I do admit I was a bit general regarding the racist/negative comments but I did say it could be just a few people giving the FDNY a bad name, I was also referring to the comment of the commissioner's son. I was just talking in general.

Anyway you guys do not know most of the situations of the priority hires who cares if they are not what you want them to be its the process and attitudes they have to go into now that will determine if they will be great Firefighters so stop with the hes taking my spot because you dont know anything about them.. Granted they will be some who are A holes who never wanted it but their drive and determination will tell who really wants it. My husband took the OC list and scored a 97 because he couldnt even believe it was a test he thought it was a questionier and thought it was retarded but mind you both previous test scored in the 100s so now he should just say No please I dont want this job because it is not right I'll pass it up Hellllll Noooo he better not... No one would... When ask does he want the money or job he put the job.

    Anyway heres the status and where he is at in the process

    Met his investigator handed all his paperwork End of Feb
    Medical which he completed everythin in 9 min but failed the stair master by I think 3 ( which means there not just giving anything to priorities you have to work for it. He goes back the 1st week of April to retake.

    He has been going to the Cpat sessions and everything seems easy to him even the stair master but being his is 35 he needs to work on his heart rate which he has been.

    So they are moving things along very quickly..

    Thank you for sharing this story. I'm hopeful that this story is more common than it appears. There is certainly a lot of hard luck in there. Being short a few credits is his fault, as you stated, but having lost out on an opportunity due to deployment is deserving of some recognition. If he is just 35 now, he would have been eligible to take the OC exam because the age limit was increased for those who took exam 6019, but were not hired due to the lawsuit. Look, the issue here is not who he is or how motivated he is, because (thankfully) he sounds extremely motivated. The issue is that there are, no doubt, many stories that share at least some similarity with his, but he's getting a second chance because he falls into one of two catagories that are defined by race. Had his story been the same, but were he Asian, Caucasian, Indian, ect, he would not have gotten this second chance. There lies the sole issue where people take excpetion with the judges order and priority hiring.

    Okay....that said, I'll say this from my point of view: The firehouse environment is a uniquelly amazing place, the great equalizer. I've worked in a lot of places, but none is more exciting, scary and difficult, yet filled with support and true brotherhood. While this hiring remedy will never sit comfortably with me, that shouldn't hamper someone's ability (on an individual basis) to come through the doors of a firehouse and prove themselves and be judged just as everyone else was for 100+ years before them. That means that anyone, regardless of the hiring track that led them here, will start their career with the ability to do the right thing, listen, learn and become part of the brotherhood. If the attitude that accompanies the next proby that get assigned to my house is not one of entitlement, but that of someone excited to be there and anxious be part of this team, I'm encouraged.

    Just wondering how the CPAT orientations were going? I have one saturday and one wednesday next week. Probably attending the saturday one.

    I have been on the Job for about 12 years now and it doesn't matter what department you are in police fire correction there are always a few bad apples. As long as you do your job and what is expected of you no one will have a problem. This is like a huge family that you are about to join, and we take care of Eachother. What ever you read in the paper, is mostly bull **** most of the time. Everyone is worried about PH ems on here you should worry about yourself and that you are in your best shape when you get called. This is a very stressful and physical job. What ever you go through at make believe land at randals island doesn't compare to when you are at a Reall Job. Good luck to everyone. It's the greatest Jon on the earth

    How did get 2 days, I thought you signed up for one day only? I did pretty good, I would love to drop the time below 9 minutes on the test, I have to shave 29 seconds off. We shall see, keep training boys and girls!

    If you think racism doesn't exist what so ever in the FDNY then you need to come back to planet earth. Just like sexism and every other ism out there it's EVERYWHERE, not just in the all mighty fire department. Those few A*holes make everyone else look bad and that's just life. One cop kicks someone in the face guess what, automatically ALL cops are called on police brutality and people want to take action on it.

    If you, as a proby, keep your mouth shut, ears open, and take nothing personal, you won't have a problem. If you whine, cry, make EEO complaints because you don't feel like you should have to do the dishes and can't perform at fires, your misery will be our life's work. That's that.

    As far as racism, there are bad apples in every bunch. On this job they stay hidden because the rest of us get after them when they open their mouths.

    With regards to the PHs, our objection to their hiring has NOTHING to do with skin color. Our ONLY problem with it is that they scored low on the test and are now being handed the job because they are what the courts deem "minorities". The white kids who got the same exact scores on the test as the priority hires ARE NOT on this job because of it. That one group is being favored over another is what we object too, not that that group being handed the job is black. I'd object just as much if Irishmen were hired this way.

    You yourself, with a 99, have a list number in the 3xxxs; a PH on here got an 85 on the "discriminatory" test. He's processing in now and you'll wait at least 2 years. That seem fair to you? I'm sure it doesn't to people who got your score and higher on the open competitive test.

    I'm willing to bet we're going to have at least one 70 by the time they get all the PH's processed and eligible.

    letssee: Even with a 99, are you happy to sit idly by as 293 people that scored lower than you waltz onto this job before you?
    Not saying I know any of their scores, but this is a more than possible scenario.

    I heard on most stair masters they come programmed with a cpat program that you can access by pushing the "up" button then "9" and "1" and then "enter" and it will automatically start the 3:20. Anyone heard of or tried this?

    A little of topic but I am kinda into strength training. I wanted to enter a few power lifting competitions. I have like 2-3 years before I possibly get called.

    My question is, if I were to rip a hamstring or ligament, would that possible DQ me? OR anything else you guys think can go wrong? thanks

    8:44...a little disappointed I was going for around 8:20. I know the time doesn't matter as long as its under 10:20 but you can look at your time as a gauge of your fitness level. I was fine After the course run, not breathing heavy at all but admittedly the additional work we did winded me a bit.

    I had my first try last night and came in at 8:00 minutes. I thought it was interesting that we have to fill out scantrons now.

    However, besides personal gratification, I suppose it doesn't really matter how fast you do it. Doing it in 10:19 is the same as 7:00, as there is no weight given to running it faster now.
