After five consecutive days of being asked when I'm going to get called, I've realized that the proper retort is, "don't ask so many questions please..."

Quick question. Has anyone used the post 9/11 G.I. bill during the academy? I'm asking because some people say you get the full BAH throughout the academy and for the duration of the probationary period? I was under the impression you don't because it's not a traditional college and the academy is considered vocational training. Any truth to any of this? Thanks for the help

From what I heard you do get it because it is considered an accredited school.

    Default grooming question

Are the guys that are running considering shaving their heads already? Or maybe too soon?
I've also heard you can use your gi bill during the academy.

For the first majority oc class in jan I understand there will be an abundance of Veterans, I'm curious as to how they'll choose the squad leaders. They'll go by rank correct? But do they just pull a guy out with the highest rank or interview them? The top part of oc will be filled with them

I didn't shave my head for the run, but I had it pretty short already. It'll be shaved though for the first day of school.

From what I know Marines are selected first to be squad leader. Then they go through the rest of the services.

Why are guys making sure their head is shaven for the run and the first day of class ? I mean I'm in the guard so my hair is short to begin with but I'm curious? Can someone answer ?

You need to have your head shaven for the first day of school. Guys are probably holding on to their head of hair as long as they can before its gone for 4 1/2 months.

Actually, at the last mentor meeting at HQ, the FF named Shane said that you don't have to shave your head, but everyone does anyway. He said that in the last class a few guys didn't, but by day 4 they had shaved their heads.

It's easier they say with the gear going on and off. Also, if the DIs say to do it, which he said it at the run, then I'm doing it. He actually used a few candidates as examples, and they had crew cuts.

I would do it solely out of not wanting to be singled out, but I think legally they can't make you shave your head because females don't have to shave their heads. Regardless, you're probably better off shaving it.

Shave your head. Don't be an indivual. They can't "force" you to shave your head but they can strongly encourage you too. Or they can make you stand there while they punish everyone else for your indivual ism. That's a fast way too make friends.

    (20) 2 miles at comfortable pace before upper-body workout
    (21) 1600m warm up
    6 200m 40s rest 1:45
6 100m strides, rest walk back to start
    1600m cool down.
    (22) Didn't run on July 4th (would have been 2 miles before upper body workout)
    (23) 2 3/4 miles at 7:08min mile pace (19:37)
    (24) 2 miles at comfortable pace before upper-body workout

They can't legally force you, however it's tradition, and something you will all do unless you're a complete *******. You don't have to for the run, it'd be a good idea for orientation. Mandatory on day 1.

I've been paying on and off attention to this thread and have never posted. I wanted to know if I have list #98x when do you think I might receive something in the mail. My FF friend told me that once this July class is officially in that they will start notifying people for the jan class and that I should have a chance for that. Anyone know What was the last list # from the OC to be called?

They called down to all of score 103 (list #733) but only those with list # under 100 from the OC were called to the 1.5 run for a chance into this July academy.

They did not get to the low 80s for the 1.5 run. I confirmed with my investigator.

Luckily it is done early, because it's a scorcher out there today.

If people fail, I'd imagine they would have more run, right?

Also, here's a photo essay of the FDNY Special Operations Command.
