Ridiculous isn't the ****ing word. It's a flat out crime if these rumors are true.

Took the CPAT this morning. I didn't destory but I didn't stuggle either. Nice and easy, deliberate, and careful not to make a mistake. Seems to me it's much easier to slip up and get DQ'd then it is to run out of time. Wanted to get it done the first time so I didn't have to drive down from base another day. Arrived at 7:30 and was out by 9:00.

Question, the EMT at the end just commented that my heartrate was "just a little high" and checked it twice before telling me I was good to go. Honestly, I was nervous as **** even though I knew I would pass. If my heartrate was too high would they have told me before I left? After that I just checked out and that was it.

BTW. Ran into a cop who was testing that I talked to at my investigation. I don't know if your on here but hope you did well buddy.

heart rate too high for what? They were monitoring our HR's to make sure it was safe for us to leave, that part doesn't have anything to do with passing the CPAT. As long as you did it in under 10:20 you passed.

In response to the rumor about no OC going through I saw this on another forum.

"Don't think that is true.. i was at annuals on Tuesday and Chief Manahan(i think that's his name) that came and spoke to us said the class should consist of EMS promotions, priority hires and regular list which at this point would be mostly city residents with military credit."

I wouldn't be surprised if the city wanted this next class to only be EMS and PH's for the simple reason of wanting to go through the PH list as soon as possible and just completely move on from it. But they're processing guys off the OC list just in case they can't get a full class. And the city probably has a determined number of how many guys will go in of the OC where it is worth to start the clock on the OC list. So say they have a class of 290-300 guys from the EMS promos and the PH's, it wouldn't be worth it to start the clock on the OC list to fill 20-30 spots. But say they only get 200-250 spots filled it'll be worth it to start the clock on the OC list to fill 70-100 spots.

I thought it could only be like 293 PH's or something?

There are 150 eligible candidates from EMS. Despite the 3:2 court order, the rest of the class will be comprised of quota hires. Right now, 60 people have passed medicals from the judges list. They will not start hiring off of the OC because they don't want the clock to start when they won't be hiring many off the list.

Like I said, rumors.....we shall see.
Thanks just read this now. I suppose that news would be good in some ways and bad in others.

    1. FDNYGUY28: The rule is that at time of appointment, and for the duration of your career, you must live in NYC or 1 of the six commuter counties previously named. You can live anywhere in the world before that, but you won't get hired without a valid address (and proof of it).

If you don't disclose it then you are lying to them. If you get caught in your lie you will most definitely be disqualified. If you put it down and explain you haven't had it in 15 years, etc etc etc, they'd probably just have you go see a specialist and get a methacholine test done.

Don't forget part of the whole medical process is about evaluating whether it's safe for you to be doing the job. Even if your asthma hasn't appeared in 15 years you still don't know what a good feed of smoke might do to your respiratory tract. Much as everybody wants to do the job would it really be a good idea if you run the risk of getting an asthma attack at a job?

Seriously though do whatever you want, but if you lie and they catch you you're done.

This makes sense, honestly I can't see the city giving a rat's %$# about giving this list 6 more months of life four years from now. They have the list, they want to hire off it ASAP which they've been saying for a long time, and have a court order to hire PHs along side OC. I think the whole reason the court wanted the PHs to be trained along side OC candidates was so they would be harder to single out as PHs once they hit the firehouse. A class that's 90% PHs would not go over well for a multitude of reasons. Higher fail-out rate than usual? Lawsuit.

Oh ok, I thought if you finished and your hr was too high that was a problem. Thanks.

Now here's other question for you mm, if I apply for emt and while I wait I get my paramedic cert while I wait for my emt list number, once I get my paramedic cert will they be able to change it from emt to paramedic instead if they have t reached my emt list number yet? Or will I have to wait another year to apply again?
The EMT and paramedic civil service exams are just that, civil service exams. They aren't going to move you from one list to another, regardless of circumstances. If you become a paramedic while only on the EMT list you can either:
    1. Not take the job and apply as a paramedic next time around, then wait for them to call you.
    2. (IMO the better option, especially if you have no experience in NYC 911, and will be a new paramedic) Take the EMT job, go through the BLS academy. Once you have your NYS EMT-P and NYC REMAC EMT-P certs you fill out some paperwork to inform the department that you are a paramedic and want to upgrade and at some point within a few months they will put you through a Medic UPgrade class (aka "MUP"). They do MUP classes as needed, or will take anyone that needs to be MUP'd and put them in with a PTOP. It gets you started sooner (which is good if you want to make sure you have the minimum time requirement to promote to FF in the future) and gets you used to how to operate in FDNY EMS before you have to also worry about being a paramedic.

Relatively new paramedics that also have no background in NYC EMS like to apply and then come aboard with no real ALS experience and no NYC experience. Learning the operational quirks to FDNY EMS as well as learning how to be a paramedic is challenging, and they frequently have a tough time with it. If you can do one, then the other, you'll have a much easier time with both.

Very detailed and well explained. Thank you mm and much success to you on your new lifestyle outside of the academy. Most on here will never forget about you, you've been very valuable to this forum as well as all the other ff on here. Unfortunately I won't be able to promote to ff after this test because of my age unless they do some miracle age extension next time around but I don't have my hopes up for that. But once again thank you for the info you provide, it's well appreciated.

No, they are not timed but the second they see you losing form they stop you. The fitness award winner usually gets where ever he wants to go, Special companies excluded of course.

I dont think I could ever crush 30 pulls up no matter how in shape I was. what qualifies as a push up, how low does one have to go.

You have to put the 10 lbs dumbbell and touch with your chest.
