For the stair test, I'd say go in training as hard as you can but if you bomb it the first time because of heart rate don't sweat it. When I went almost all of us there were in shape and former military (mostly Marines) and we all failed it, in fact none of us even got to put the vest on. When I went back I didnt even break a sweat while on the machine for 8 minutes due to my preparation. I don't think their heart rate monitor is accurate at all based on my own counts and other heart rate monitors as well.
I believe this might be true. I've trained non-stop every week on the stair-master with a 50 pound weight vest going 60spm for 20-30 minutes. In between 10 minute intervals, I recite the alphabet song with an added count to 10 while trying not to sound out of breathe. I saw my doctor and my BP is 110/65. Despite all this, I have a growing fear that they WILL find something to bring me back. Almost like the investigation, there will be something they find to bring you back.

and for the record; most people think they are in shape but truly aren't, when it comes to cardiovascular

Not all of them come back though right? There's got to be a few guys who are like "Shiiiit I don't like fire."

Don't they have to wait a class in order to come back? I know PD makes you wait a class if you decide to resign and come back.

No... They can come back right away.. Unless they got injured and the healing takes longer than 6 months...

What people do in the academy that get injured? And out of those 14 do you know specific reasons on why they dropped.

Anyone know how I would go about updating contact info with FDNY? I know the important stuff gets snail mailed but I'd like them to have my current email address.

My thoughts exactly, every drop is potentially one less spot in January.

If people drop due to injury, that's one thing, as injuries do occur - even when someone is in great shape. But if you willing chose to quit and go home, that should be it.

It's only my opinion, but if you really want the job, you'll figure out how to make it through, one day at a time.

King Henrik--you need to sign an 8 year contract extension with the Rangers before you can update any contact info, please.

Does anyone know how allergies play out for the medical? I was diagnosed as allergic to bee stings as a kid. No anaphylaxis though. Last year i was stung by several bees in short order and i had no reaction. Ive grown out of the allergy. Does the FDNY have access to my med records or do i need to bring them in?
