Tough break for the guys at the top of the list. Here's hoping everything goes smoothly for you all in January and a year from now you'll be starting out at your new houses.

This is an interesting development for those of us further down the list though. By getting all the PH's done before starting the OC list rather than mixing the first class, they hold the clock on the OC list an extra 6 months, therefore giving us (probably) 8 full classes off the OC list instead of 7 and change. That could mean an extra 500-1000 list numbers get reached at the end.

    8 classes @ 320 a class:
    3:1 ratio = 7,680
    4:1 ratio = 10,240
    5:1 ratio = 12,800

If I'm interpreting this right I think what you're doing is making a 15 week plan to be able to walk the stair master with 75 pounds.

Honestly bro, I applaud your organization and planning but I don't think you'll need that much preparation. My first time on the stairs I threw on a 40 lb vest and walked for 2 mins. The next day, 40lbs for 3 mins. The day after I could knock out 5 mins. So it doesn't take long to build stamina on the stairs. I was soon walking with my 40lb vest and a 25lb plate for 8 mins. Unless of course you have weak knees or something, then definitely take it slow.

If I'm completely off the mark and you're referring to something else then PLEASE disregard lol. Good luck with the training though you've definitely got the right idea.

This has probably been answered (many times) in the past, but i can't go back through 5 years of posts on this and the 6019 thread.....When does the clock on 2000 officailly start ticking? Is it when the first from that list is sworn in?

So if what has been discussed earlier with July being all PH and EMS, List 2000 won't start until Jan 2014? Meaning it will be valid until July 2018 (if they extend it 3 times as usual)

no no ur 100% right.(goal is 75lbs for 5 mins rest 3mins 52lbs 10 mins) But since there is no need to take it any faster. I won't. Not looking to hurt myself you know?
Also I am doing this after my "hard" run days. So... Its not like I'm stepping up to the plate 100%

And for the rest of the hearsay going on about this next class; we won't know until the date comes. So keep your heads up brothers and keep training.

    Absolutely!

Taking it slow is absolutely the right call. Keep it up man, 15 weeks will be here before you know it. I also want to look into doing those "ladders". Definitely will help with strengthening your lungs and breathing which I hear is huge in probie school. I also need to get into the pool sometime this summer...

Well ill keep posting my workouts and people can jump in where they see/think there cardio is at. As you can see I was a struggling 2.5 at 8 min pace and today I did 2.5 at 7:20 pace... So yes I think this is absolutely helping more than just going out and running distance

Alright guys, listen. i know pd and fd are two very different beasts. But when I was waiting for pd the forums were the same. NOTHING about these processes are written in stone, even after swear in. Believe me. DO NOT allow the feeling of disappointment shake your motivation. Im sitting mid 3000s on this list and want it so bad i can taste it, so I too, row the same boat with alot of you. Trust me fellas (and ladies too), it will come. We WILL get there. And until such a time comes where we stand together in that auditorium I will keep working out, keep my eyes on the prize and not let a thing shake me of it. I survived the desert twice. I made the moves I needed to make. Waiting sucks, but to me, its a labor of love. Its too easy guys. and those higher than me, you got this practically. nothing is going to stand in my way. nothing. stay strong everyone, itll come.

There was speculation as to why were medicals given to almost 300 OC guys if they won't end up hiring any of them this July. My guess (and I emphasize guess!) would be that they had to have a backup plan with all of the PHs failing their medicals on the first chance. The department couldn't bank on most of them coming back and passing the second medical like what happened with EMS - if they did and the PHs didn't come back, they would have been left with a lack of fully qualified candidates to fill the July class.

Hopefully you guys who have everything done won't have to redo the medical and are still just a 1.5 mile run on a cold January day away from getting to the Rock (if all of this is true).

To all the PD guys, just wondering how the transition is from PD to FD, so far. I'm about to start processing for PD and was wondering if it's a headache to make the move.

If this new rumor about the OC guys not getting into this July class is true, then I feel bad for the future of FDNY. This class will consists of guys who were not capable of scoring higher then an 80 on a simple exam. What kind of recruits will these guys be ?It's a sad day when the highest scoring proby will have a score of an 80, SMH !!!

There are many of us from the promotional that weren't eligible for the January class simply due to time. I got a 98 on the test. What did you get?

He wasn't referring to the EMS promos, he was referring the PH's, seems pretty obvious to me.

    Hey guys so I think I've stumbled upon something that we all may have overlooked (or it's been answered in the past and I'm an idiot);

If the next class is supposed to go in July 29th (basically August) and the duration of probie school was expanded to 26 weeks long that means that the class will not end until January 27th. Now I don't believe they can just start the next class right away because I would imagine they need some time in between for drill instructors to take off. Is it possible that they can have two classes overlap? Or will the "january class" be more like a march class?

    Thoughts?
