1 captain, 3 lieutenants, and 20-25 FFs per company. I'm not 100% sure what the exact # is for being "full", but it's somewhere in that range.

"Full" is a 20 man engine roster and a 25 man truck roster.

Not directly related, but I heard EMT filings begin in a couple days. Does anyone know if FDNY is still down EMT's due to all the guys lost to fire? I will be filing with the bare minimum of 70, being all I have is my emt-b certification. Just trying to figure out how long it will take me to get on as an EMT if for some reason (god forbid) I don't make it under exam 2000. Been number crunching in my head to see if it would be possible to have 2 years on by the time the next NOE comes out.

FDNY will always be down Emts because this job sucks. Many have left to fire and many others to sanitation and pd. guys that have been here less than 6 months have already left.

How fast depends how many people with experience also apply. I had a 70 and I was called in under a year. They go through people pretty quick as well.

Assuming you're just doing it to go to fire I would just see if its worth it based on your age. If by the next NOE you'll be too old anyway I wouldn't waste your time with this **** job. But it could help getting you on a promo but again something to figure out based on your age.

With your score I wouldn't worry to much, I'm pretty positive they'll reach you and there's a lot better things you can do in the meantime.

But it doesn't hurt to be on the list anyway, who knows where you'll be in life when they call.

If I am currently on list 2000 and I file to take the EMT exam, and I am hired, can I leave before the 2 years since I am already on the list?

If this is a dumb question, forgive me. I am fairly competant with the FD process but am lost as to the EMS side of things.

Thank you. I am 24, so I think if the stars align the next NOE will be out before I turn 29, because my birthday is February. I figure even if they decide the put the NOE out January of 2018, I would just make the cut. Do you think the next NOE will be out before Feb 2018?

You will get hired with a 70, just a matter of debate as to how long that will take. You don't need 2 years in title to take the exam. You could sit for the promotional exam with 1 day in title as an EMT/paramedic, you need 2 years in order to be promoted after passing all the steps.

It's always anybody's guess, but considering the current list will expire in the summer of 2017 I would expect the next NOE to be issued in 2016/2017 so that they could have a new list ready to go relatively soon after the current one expires.

If you get hired by EMS and then get reached on list 2000 you will be hired off 2000 no questions asked. You aren't on the promotional list so the promotional rules don't apply. That would only come into play if on the next exam you take it as a promotion, but by then I'm sure you'd have the necessary 2 years.

I have not been receiving any e-mail correspondence from the city, is this a DCAS or FDNY issue?

Check your spam folder. And if you use gmail they have their new system so for me mail from the FDNY was going under Promotions.

Thanks! I just spent the better part of a half an hour updating all of my information. After I moved, I made it a point to inform DCAS of all info but didn't think to call FDNY. Glad I did.

I asked for a list update and the FDNY rep just chuckled...hey I tried.
