Hey guys i've got a question. After entering the academy, how long will it be before we get our first paycheck? Also, about how much do we take home every 2 weeks after taxes?

I think that the ice may be an issue, but maybe it is because the weather is calling for it to feel like -7 out when the run is supposed to happen. I'm guessing that they are just playing it safe.

I think everyone has to call CID again to confirm their attendance for the 9th now. I called in just to double check the rescheduling and she said "ok. You are confirmed or the 9th".

I was worried there was only gonna be like 20 of us there on the 9th. Guess we'll have a lot more company now lol

I hear ya, I just wanted that offer of employment letter in my hand already. The weather Thursday will help those that were truly on the brink of the 13min I think.

Probably 2-4 weeks depends how long they take to put you in the payroll system. Pay is BI-weekly so at a minimum 2 weeks.

Depends on your taxes what you take home. Single non-home owner like me I got about $950 with no overtime. You will earn a couple hours a week of OT being the academy is a 9 hour day.

Gross pay before taxes for a 6th grade is about $1550 biweekly

A standard training day (referred to as a cycle day) is 9 hours long. In the academy you are on a 40 hour a week schedule, so that extra hour a day is OT.

OT in the field varies from battalion to battalion. I think most battalions have a healthy amount right now, however it's hard to say what the situation will be like if/when you get on and are actually able to do it.

My friend said his run tomorrow is postponed due to weather. I figured they wouldn't care about temperature.

Just a heads up, I went to my local SS office and tried to get the last 5 years SS detailed earnings statement (2009-2013). I was told 2013 is not yet available. It will be available when your employer sends the W2's to you. My intake interview is on 2/12/14. I'm going to wait until the end of the month when I get my W2, then go back to the SS office. Thought this might save a trip for someone.

Well, I guess it wouldn't have been right to break the theme of the last several years and have the the run go on as scheduled!

Thursday is fixing to be a long day with both runs now on same date... It can't come soon enough.

It shouldn't delay the letters for the 15th. We going to have to wait until the 9th anyway so they can get a better idea of how many invites need to sent out.

I was told once that I should just 'give up,' go home, join the volunteers and do it for free.

My reply was that the 'idea is to get paid to do it...'
