    Cool

Hey guys, just a suggestion here. Stay off The Rant. It's a site we go onto to complain about job related stuff, hence The Rant. It can demoralize you seeing guys bitch about this and bitch about that. You are young and looking forward to getting on the job, staying in shape and keeping out of trouble. Well, you should be.

Keep running, stay in shape, and when you get that letter and give notice to your job DON'T BURN THAT BRIDGE! I have seen many guys tell their boss 'to go kiss their a**, I'm joining the FDNY' and then be told just before the academy starts that everything is going on hold. Will notify you when we are ready to begin another class. Oh s**t! Think your boss is going to take you back? I'm not kidding here. Leave your old job like a gentleman.

Okay, I'm gonna get off my soapbox now.

As a fellow young guy, gotta look out for the upcoming young guys. A lot of jokes in this academy will go over your head. Just laugh and nod and you'll be alright haha.

As for your problem, there's a guy in our class born in 1993. That means he turned 21 sometime before Jan 27th of this year. He must've been in almost the same situation as you. I'll ask him how we went about it. They may or may not let you do the run but definitely bring this up to your investigator and see what they think you should do.

    Good luck
He's in my squad, with his situation he turned 21 on the day of his run

Save your receipts, it's all a tax write off at the end of the year. You need to claim more than the standard deduction, but if you're diligent with receipts, you might hit that amount.

Quick question just trying to prepare for the future, do we have health insurance while in the academy or do they just cover if you get hurry in the academy ?

Health insurance is from day one but I'm not sure how that's defined. After the run? Orientation day? Or first day of academy?

Thanks bro. I really appreciate the info and the time you put in getting it to me. I also saw the other comment about the kid who turned 21 on the day of his run and it's funny because that is actually the same guy who I received my original advise from. Me and him have been life long friends and unless there were 2 kids both born in 93 and both of them took the run on their birthday, then it's definitely him. Thanks again man, good luck with the rest of the Academy and finish strong.

To be honest I just think it's the work ethic of the investigator. Mine just doesn't care. I just don't want to be doing last minute hurdles to get paper work to make July class.

College transcripts need to be official? What about using the work experience requirement? Is it an issue of qualification for the job or does FDNY want to know how you performed in school?

Also anyone going for medicals etc hearing more about this December 1st class?

I brought a sealed transcript of the credits I had done when I went, cause it tells you to in the packet. She told me if I wanted to use that as the requirement, I'd have to have it sent directly to metrotech from the school. Otherwise, just use the work experience, which I did. The transcript is still sitting in my desk.

If the transcript is sealed and not opened they will take it, the envelope usually says unofficial if opened or something like that, as long as it sealed from the school

    Two things:

1: Up to what list number has completed their medical?

2: When can we expect first round of run letters to go out?
