Wont be surprised if i go to the Rock next year and see Motivation Alley padded. At least we dont have to wear stinky pt gear all day anymore. Yuk.

*Holy crap never mind. Just read the entire article. It WILL be padded. Wow.

What's everyone's mile and mile half time? What's the pace on average fpr the academy. I run on average a 7 and half min mile. I'm sure I still need more work to do.

I was averaging a 7:20 mile pace when i went in. Im doing fine. But theres no average in the academy. Sometimes we do 7:30, sometimes we do around 9:00 or a little higher; depends on the instructor. Some do intervals, some start around 9 and end around 7, some do about 8 all the way while singing cadence etc.

If you're a veteran that'll help. Either way you need as close to a 100 as possible. There will be ems people ahead of you, and a lot of people with 100+ scores. On this test it's looking like they might only get to the 98-99 range during the life of the list. If FDNY is all you want you need to move here and consider ems. If not then just take the next written and see what happens, you wouldn't be the first guy to get that lucky.

So for the intake interview, should you only wear strickly a solid black or navy blue suit? No pinstriped suites or anything like that? What do you guys think? Thanks for the feedback

Would anyone happen to have the number for the office of recruitment and diversity ?

I'd like to register for the info session, FDNY does not have my current number or email on file.

If possible I'd like to be there on Tuesday as well with most of u.

The medical release form does not have to be completed by the info session. Make sure to have it for the first date after the info session though.

If you have the medical form completed, they will accept it at the info session. Make a photo copy of it because once you hand it in they don't give it back.. Also have a day in mind that you can attend, mon-fri is evening only, Saturday is morning and afternoon session, there is no Sunday session.

How long would I have to live in the city to gain residency points on the test. And is there any fire related job I could get until the next test.

you need to live in the city during whatever they designate as the "residency period". For this past test it was from july 2010-july 2011

Worth noting that the 1 year period of 7/2010-7/2011 was the year before the filing period for the current test (filing started in 7/2011). So the point is that they wanted to see that you were already a resident, and not some guy moving in just for the test. If you are serious about this you need to move in sooner rather than later.

next test is probably in early 2016 so they'll want to see residency from 2014-2015

Basically encouraging people to take advantage of the mentor program offered by the department. It worked out great for me and I am looking forward to being able to pay it forward to those that will be coming up as well.
