NE Philly: Try to stay east of Roosevelt Blvd (Rt 1) and north of Cottman Avenue. The closer you are to the Montgomery County Line (Rockledge/Abington/Huntingdon Valley) the better the neighborhoods, however more expensive. Manayunk/Roxborough ok if you get the right neighborhood.

70 people failed to show over the course of the 4 nights. We only had 66 people the first night (14 absent).....

They may have to bring another group of 80 in to make up for it! It's starting to look better and better for the guys further down the list

The night I was there we had about 3 or 4 empty tables. I wouldn't be surprised if they start this class b4 June the way the city is short FF. I read an article recently saying they were looking to start in may.

PDQ booklets were due last Friday. Anyone know how quickly we can hope to hear about an interview?

Well, when we went through the process last time many of the higher ranked people were getting their letters 2-3 weeks after orientation. So I would imagine we should be getting them soon.

Agreed, the top ranked guys started interviews the first week of July. Orientation was the last week of May, so roughly 6 weeks from orientation to the Batt Chief interview. If the same timeline holds, look for letters in the next two weeks announcing interviews for the first two weeks of April.

Bring on June.........from todays budget hearings at city hall

To be a great city we must be an increasingly safe city, and we will be making investments in public safety to advance this critical goal.

We will spend $2.1 million in FY14 to make improvements to fire houses across the City. And we're allocating $4.7 million for new self-contained breathing apparatus, air bottles and 35 new Jaws of Life.

In January, the Philadelphia Fire Academy graduated a class of 148 Fire Cadets and 21 Fire Service Paramedics. In June, 160 cadets in two more classes will start their training and finish in November.

Finally, violent crime has declined during the first half of the current fiscal year, showing that our community policing model and increased police presence in high crime areas is working. But clearly, we have much more to do.

During FY14, the Philadelphia Police Department will hire more police officers to maintain a sworn strength of 6,525. With these new boots on the ground and under the impressive leadership of Commissioner Charles Ramsey, we will make Philadelphia a safer city, working in partnership with neighborhood community groups and using our stronger safety surveillance system.

And, as I announced last year, we will continue our plans for the renovation of 4601 Market Street into a state-of-the-art police headquarters. Co-located at the new Police Headquarters will be the City Morgue and the offices of the Health Center at 500 S. Broad.

Well since we have to do everything else again I would be VERY surprised if we didn't have to.
