I don't know what that "2013 testing" thing is about. The list is supposedly good for 2 years from the date it is established as the official list, which was this year. So I can't imagine another test until sometime 2014.... crazier things have happened though.
Perhaps you should reacquaint yourself with Civil Service Regulations. A list must be in effect for at least 1 year but in no case longer than 2 years.

I wouldn't worry about it too much guys. I remember when I went through the process that quite a few of the people involved with the process seemed quite confident that there would be a few more classes after the ones in September.

Every list in recent memory has been 4 years....but things can always change.... Would have to justify the expense to the mayor though since he actually gives approval...

That was due to the Consent Decree which required 4 year lists. The Consent Decree is now defunct. Civil Service Regulations are back in effect.

Hey FirePuss, I've been working in this city probably while you were still in diapers. I know how things work. I also know the rules & regs. You should STFU.

I'm pretty sure the city is spending more money on lawyers fighting Act 111 than if they were to award retro raises back to 08 with 10% each year for everyone. They don't care about the firefighters, and do whatever they want when it comes to how they treat them. In ALL aspects of the job, contracts, hiring and even retiring with that new crappy pension plan new guys get.

BTW, I didn't know you had 33 years on the job. That's a long time to be a garbage man. You probably did pick up some of my diapers back then, hope it wasn't too much for you to handle.
Spoken like a typical five-year wonder that doesn't know ****.

So if they are going to be putting a class or two through in Feb/March then I would guess that letters for orientation would go out sometime around this month or November. Has anyone heard anything new?

I'm curious how the new pension differs from the previous one?

I know there are no lifetime benefits which is an eye opener.

Actually, new hires will have the option to go into Plan 87 which is a defined benefit pension plan. Instead of paying 5%, you will have to pay 6%. Still better than Plan 10 which is a defined contribution plan (401k).

    Latest transfers just issued.

You might be happy (or dismayed) to learn that 7 of the 160 hires have terminated employment with the PFD.

This is no joke folks. Don't take the job unless you are committed, are in shape, and know what it takes to be a firefighter. These 7 just cost other people an opportunity.

What is even more pathetic is that the academy is not even a quarter of the way through and there will probably be several others who will bite the dust before it is over. Disgraceful to the city, department, and those of us whom have been prepared for years!

A quarter way through? It just started a couple weeks ago. I expect more will bite the dust before it is over with and graduation day in held.

I would have thought more than that by this time. They must be slacking up on the probies.

What's amazing is the fact that none of them have put on bunker gear, picked up a hose or put on an SCBA yet.....They're still in the EMT portion of class........Wait till they start with fire training.......

I've said it once, and I'll say it again...You can't measure heart by a test score, or by body weight, or skin color. How disgusting...

I'm just saying...If you let an instructor or medic tell you to stop running..because you look pale and you're response is anything other then "No Sir, I refuse to quit unless I get Fired, or I die" then you need to rethink your occupation..

Hey NorfPhilly, can you clean out some of your messages in your inbox? I want to PM you, but it says that your inbox is too full.
