Default Getting my EMT-B before vollying for a local fire dept.

Hey guys I'm looking to start volunteering at my local fire dept here in Northbridge. When I went down they said a lot of there work is in the ambulance (obviously). That being said would it be in my best interest to enroll in the september EMT-B program? The company that I am currently at will reimburse me for the cost of the program after I complete it. Seems like a no brainer but just curious if it would look better as a volunteer

If the local department runs EMS then may require that you get your EMT at some point after you join and will cover the course. If you can start the course now and still have it covered then it's probably a wash. Do it now, or do it later, whichever fits in better with your schedule.

My opinion would be to start it now, especially if your job will cover it. That way when you join the local VFD you can focus on the other training like FF1..etc.

Im in massachusetts, my girlfriends brother is joining boston fire deptartment in a year or so after he's out of the military. Thats where I want to end up so I know paramedics is going to have to be done. I will start it now, is there any other certifications that I could do right now that would benefit me? My current employer has the tuition reimbursement program so I am actively taking advantage of it.

i would start it now and get it out of the way. where do you currently work for, is it a private ambo company or something. i know around here that if you work for a private ambo company that they will pay for your emt and paramedic, but then you have to sign a contract and work for them for a certain amount of time, and if you leave before then, you have to pay them back.
