So in Phase 1 it is listed as "submission of application", "entry level testing" (with a study guide)!!, then background and oral.
You mean there is no "entry level testing with a study guide, even though that's what the process states???

Well there is a test.. Must submit test scores no more than 5 years old for either SAT (minimum score: verbal - 430, math - 400), ACT (minimum score: verbal - 17, math - 17), ASSET (minimum score: reading - 38, writing - 38, math - 38) or COMPASS (minimum score: reading - 64, writing - 38, math - 37) at time of application. For testing, please contact schools in your area. You will be exempt from supplying these test scores if you possess any of the following certifications:
National Registry EMT-I;
National Registry EMT-P or State of Georgia Paramedic;
Any associates degree or higher from an accredited college.
Thank god I have my Associates and my EMT-I

I used to work there. I can also answer any questions. I can tell u one of the major county changes that took place around when I started working there was that the couny got rid of the pension retirement for new employees and switched to a 401k. This was several years ago. Became effective January 2007. All in all still a great dept to work for, lots of nice people.

A good friend of mine is in their current recruit class and scheduled to graduate in the next few weeks. He loves the dept and the people there. I'm hoping to apply as well. But I need to get time off work to go take the Compass test in GA. Nobody in FL offers it and I took my SAT's back in the 90's, so they are too old.

Best of luck to everyone who is going out for Gwinnett Fire. I used to live in Gwinnett and they are a busy department from what Ive seen and heard. Great structured department and one I would be testing for if I just did not get an offer from another Atlanta area department. Also Cherokee County is also testing if your looking into Georgia area. Once again best of luck

Have you taken an English class where they have taught spelling and grammar? Also, your avatar makes people think you are a FF, are you?? I know you don't ride that ladder you have your foot on.
Engine 31 is currently in rotation as a spare unit. Station 31 will be adjacent to Gwinnett College. Tentative plan is to build 31 and move 15's crews there while 15 is demolished and rebuilt at current site.
There are no Freightliner's in frontline service, only reserve.
KME's are problematic to say the least. LOT'S of issues with regeneration.
Our current academy was built in 1980. They've been "planning" on a new academy since 1997. I'll believe it when I see it.
As far as number of recruits...I've heard 24-36. Having EMTI helps because it's less the county has to spend. PMDC ensures your job.
GC is going through a lot of problems right now. Pension problems, no raises, benefits tanking, etc. It's all preliminary right now, employees should know more in a month or so.
It's a good place to work though all in all. Like everywhere else, has it's issues.

Is anyone out there willing to email me and touch base with some department info? Im from Gwinnett Co. was raised in Lawrenceville and moved in 2006, have been a Firefighter in New Orleans for 3 yrs now, was contemplating moving back home if I get hired on. The sad thing is, I know nothing about Gwinnett Co. Fire at all. How many districts, stations, personnel, I couldnt even tell you who the Fire Chief is. If someone has the time to shoot me some info, and a sit down please contact me at RLWilton@aol.com. I am in town until Thursday. Thanks
