Wow the paint has been burnt away to reveal the bare metal!
Is it from an FDNY Engine or Battatlion car? It's not the destination, but the journey that matters.
Stay safe

Why the eye roll?
From what I see, there's no doubt it's the unmistakable FDNY patch, which can be found on the rigs and ambulances. Being that it's metal, damaged, and the fact we're close to the 10th anniversary of 911.....our esteemed veteran LewistonFF (a friend of FDNY) made a very good educated guess on where you were going with this.
If it's not remains from the WTC, then it's most likely scrap from a rig.

I'm going to guess a panel off of an FDNY Ladder truck from Ground Zero....possibly Ladder 4?

Yes Dickey - it is off a piece of apparatus from Ground Zero - unfortunately the documentation wasn't on hand for me to say which apparatus it was from....if it is from Ladder 4 I'm especially honored to be able to touch it - a friend and fellow Vol. FF was career in FDNY assigned to Ladder 4 - and was lost on 9-11.

Well, the heat distruction of the paint on the door but no visible soot staining along with the removal of the decal in such a way that the bare metal was exposed. Couple that with your affiliation with the fire service and your job. Leads me to believe this may be the door to a peice of equipment recovered from Ground Zero and possibly preserved at the museum.

On this one I have no friggin clue. Its endured some considerable heat judging by the staining, and from the looks of the metal its brass. Looks like a threaded bolt hole and possibly cracks in the metal surface indicating its possibly hollow. Other than that I'm out of ideas.

You are right sir.....it is also one of the pieces that will be sent out for display - the Governor announced today the 30 locations cross NYS where displays will be -
Unfortunately I don't have the press release here with the locations - should be out soon.....
ALBANY -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the National September 11 Memorial and Museum organization are scheduled to release the statewide sites for 30 Sept. 11 exhibits.
The sites to be announced Wednesday include public facilities that will be open from later this month through late September. The exhibits will be available for public view on Sept. 11, a Sunday and the 10th anniversary of the attacks.
Artifacts from ground zero and expressions of grief sent after the 2001 terrorist attacks will be part of the exhibits. Many of the artifacts for the "New York Remembers" exhibits will come from the New York State Museum.
