This is beyond incredible. It is apparent that the organizers of the ceremony don't have a single vestige of the integrity, morality or humanity displayed by the first responders on 9/11.

These issues aside consider this "separate but equal" this is Jim Crow crap. Just what in the name of all things holy is being implied with this ?.

I agree. This is bad. I'm sure there is some official phoney baloney reason. But it still sucks.

There are really no words to describe what I am feeling right now other than that of saddness for those who toiled away on that site and are not even allowed to be there on the anniversary.

The city instead will hold a separate-but-equal ceremony
Where have I heard just such a statement being used before....

oh, right, the south in the 1930s. Last time I checked, 'seperate-but-equal" was anything but equal. Nice to know how New York views it's heroes.

The Mega Mosque near ground zero, and now this? WTF is Bloomberg thinking? If you don't want to offend, don't minimize the people that poured thier blood, sweat and tears into this sacred ground.

Bloomburg has got to be one of the most offensive politicians I've ever seen. This takes the cake. One can only hope that other New Yorkers are equally ashamed and speak out. To completely disregard the families, brothers and loved ones of those who responded to the WTC to help is an affront to those who were rescued, and those who perished while FDNY and other emergency service personnel rushed to their aid.

    Another day, what a disgrace.

    Sad, pathetically sad.

But the truth is, now the FDNY knows EXACTLY where it stands with the mayor and city government. Thy may have thought they knew previously, but now it is 100% evident what a lowlife scumbag Bloomberg is and how much contempt he has for the FDNY.

From what I read it looks like the only the families of people who died (including first responders) and officials are to be present. This group includes thousands of people. To invite every single person that showed up to help in some way in the weeks after the incident as well would be a whole lot of people to manage. I don't know how you would even sort who was who when you sent invites. While many risked a lot to help, this is a memorial for the folks who died that day...not for the people who responded.

I'm sure 11,000 FDNY guys would disagree. They did lose 343 brothers that day.

While I might borderline agree with you on your first post, you can't honestly say you agree with the mosque proposed building site. Cmon. Of all the places in New York to place a Islamic style religious gathering place, they couldn't find somewhere else other than the hallowed ground where Islamic radicals killed over 3000 people. I'm a believer in land of the free. Not land of the heartless.

You see anybody holding communist/neo Nazi rallies near Utah beach? Much grander scale, yes, but principal feels the same to me.

Look, I sometimes disagree (Respectfully, of course) with Noz, but please note the "Sarcasam Smiley" in the second post. I think he's on the same page with the rest of us, just expressing things a bit differently. Quite honestly, Yes, I think FDNY, NYPD, etc. are getting the shaft here, but on the other hand, the logistics of a memorial service with upwards of 40,000 people is going to be tough to do......... Last, Yes, Bloomberg is an insensitive politician doing this for the photo ops, nothing more......

The FDNY firefighters deserve compensation for the injuries and illnesses. I have been a Firefighter for 34 years and at my first assignment I was told I would not work there. Guess why? Period. Guess what, I was moved to another station and this was after Jim Crow. BTW Jim Crow is not separate but equal, quit talking out the side of your neck.

Maybe so...but the memorial seems to be for those that died and their immediate family. I don't know the venue, but maybe there isn't enough room for that many people. If that's the case, then I'd wager they would understand. We can wait for some of them to check in, or let you keep speaking for them. I'm sure you're authorized to do so.
