I drive 2 hours. Wake up at 230, in the gym for 430-445 and pull into the station at 600, an hour early for relief, like it should be....
I guess man. I currently rent so it wouldn't be a big deal for me. My wife will move wherever

Having a wife and kid is definitely a game changer. The good thing about our job is that it allows us to be able to live further from where we work than regular employees. I know that there are not many places in the city that I work that I would like to live, and on my salary, the good ones are too expensive.
I drive an hour so that we are able to send our kids to the school that we want, feel safe and be able to live comfortably.

    Why not move?

    Why should I?

It is roughly an hour and 45 minutes to get to work for me. I drive that 10 or 11 days a month. Realistically it is no hardship. I used to drive over 2 hours to my previous fire department.

Where I live I have 14 acres of land, complete with a pond, woods, and a pasture for the horses my wife will soon have. I also have a 4 bedroom house and a pole barn with property taxes far less than I would pay for a lot and home in the city I work in.

I like looking out my window and seeing wildlife like red foxes, deer, opossums, racoons, cranes, hawks, eagles, herons, geese, and more. I like seeing the stars at night and not having them all washed out by city lights. I like my neighbors being over 500 feet away and on one side over a quarter of a mile away. Peace, quiet, and no nosey, oh so close neighbors. Seems like paradise to me!

Obviously it is not for everyone, but I like it.
Crazy, but that's how it goes
Millions of people living as foes
    Maybe it's not too late

Seems the only thing you are missing is a little neon green sports car.

Yes, yes, I can be, but a shot not taken is a shot missed forever.
