    Default Tanker Question

Seems like the max grant award for any type of tanker is $250,000. While we are aware of the different types of tankers and pricing, the one we decided to spec is priced around $328,000 (1250gpm/3000gallons). If awarded we are going to cover the difference in price with a loan.

For grant/narrative purposes, should we be putting the total cost of the project as $328,000 and requesting that amount or are we ok in just requesting $250,000 (or less) and listing the project cost as such even though the actual cost will be $328,000?

What you describe is not a tanker under AFG, but classified a pumper as the pump exceeds 750 GPM. It would essentially be considered a pumper/tanker, but your request would reviewd against the departments fleet of pumper(s) vs. tankers. This change in classification could mean the difference between being awarded and denied.

As for the funding request. Does the department have or the ability to obtain $90,000 to make up the difference + the 5% share? If so, the best way to address it in the application is to ask for the $250,000. In the narrative is where you want to address the actual cost of the vehicle and that the department is providing funding to reduce the requested amount. Also show the federal and department share that results from this as well as it will no longer be a 95/5% split.

As Bugle stated above: you are asking for an engine/pumper with a large water tank, not a tanker. Tankers have been funded at 190-220k. A 3000 gal tanker was funded at 225k last year.
If you apply for a 328k tanker, it will not get by the computer scoring. PERIOD!

How many other engines do you have in the fleet and how old are they.
What is your fleet average age?
Do you have any other tankers?
    Call volume?
Hydrants in your district or not?

We had a local dept. receive a Vac. tanker, 3000 gal for about $279 or so. Prices are rising with the new engine requirements.
