Events happening around Utah Valley to commemorate 9/11:
OREM -- Public safety personnel from throughout Utah are participating in a commemoration at 10 a.m. at UVU. From 9 a.m. to noon, police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and ROTC members will be available to visit with the public and talk to them about ways to stay safe.
LEHI -- Lehi City firefighters are meeting at Fire Station 81 at 176 N. Center St. from 6-7 p.m. Sunday to honor the firefighters who died on Sept. 11, 2001.
PROVO -- The Provo City Veteran's Council is holding a 10th anniversary commemoration at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 255 S. 700 East in Provo. The ceremony will include the singing of the national anthem, a flag ceremony, bagpipe music, a video presentation featuring local community members who were directly affect by the attacks and an awards ceremony for a Utah Valley resident who served at Ground Zero; UVU President Matthew Holland will be the keynote speaker and Provo Mayor John Curtis will be the emcee.
SPANISH FORK -- The Chamber Singers of Maple Mountain High School and the Mapleton Chorale are presenting a program that includes a major choral work, "Memorial," that was written for the second anniversary of the terrorist attacks. Shane Warby, a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, will be the soloist, and UVU President Matthew Holland will be the keynote speaker. The event is free, but tickets are required and can be obtained from the main office at the high school or via email email@example.com.
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir will present a special "Music & the Spoken Word," its weekly radio program, with NBC anchor Tom Brokaw as a guest narrator. The show will have music and speaking that describes how the nation as come together as a result of the tragedy of Sept. 11. "9/11: Rising Above" will air at the show's normal 9:30 a.m. time on KSL and KSl Radio as well as other times throughout the day.
