Can anyone give me any info regarding why some occupancies are inspected only once a year and others twice? Any codes would be helpful.

can be for many reasons

1. depends on if the buildings are in a city/ county, etc that actualy requires inspections

2. if they do, than they can dictate how often a business is inspected.

3. Now most hospitals, nursing homes, day cares, some schools are required to be inspected by federal or state laws, but inspection may be made by the city, state or feds

Now some cities require certain businesses to be inspected more often, becasue they feel that they are higher hazards, or large number of people may be in a building

I inspect all "target hazards" twice a year. Day cares, nursing homes, places like that. And I do it un-announced.

Also occupanices with a poor history during inspections- I might hit them more often. Again, un-announced.

There really is nothing in the IFC or in our ordinances granting me authority other than "The AHJ has the authority to......blah blah blah......"
