    Default Firefighting in Honduras

    Hey everyone,
I'm 17, senior in highschool, and I've been looking into careers for awhile now, trying to decide what I want to do with my life. Out of all the careers I've researched, I'm pretty sure I want to be a firefighter.
I like helping people, I want to have a job that keeps me active, and I think I'm going to like the danger aspect of fighting fires. And firefighting has all of those, haha.
But, I'd like to get some real life experience of what it's like on the job...I would really like to do some ride-alongs or volunteer or something just to get a feel of it to see if it is really something I would like doing.
The only problem is, right now my family is living in Honduras, Central America. So my question for you guys is, do you have any information about firefighting here in Honduras and do you think there is anyway for me to try it out here?
And by the way, I've told a few of my Honduran friends that I want to be a firefighter and they all have thought it was stupid...two of them actually laughed at me, especially when I told them I might go to college for a fire science degree. So I don't think Hondurans look too highly upon firefighters here, haha. I wonder why that is?

    Thanks!

    Two answers I would say

Talk to higher ups in the fire departments near where you live and see what their policy is about employing Americans

Or try to find American companies that employ their own fire brigade and see what is needed to get hired by them

Two problems I see is no training and you are not a national

Okay, thank you for the answers! I don't think I would want to be employed by them necessarily, though, I would probably just want to do some ride alongs or something.
    Thanks!
