Fire Prevention Week is once again upon us. FH.Com has thousands of firefighters who come for information and none of us have the time to reinvent the wheel. Let's share some ideas on what departments are planning on doing this year to share the information and help us all save lives?
What are your plans for this Fire Prevention Week?
Have you started planning?
How are you using your resources?
What resources have you found to help?
Do you have a unique fire problem? A unique local message?

We don't do a lot in the way of special events, with the exception of our Open House, which is scheduled for either the opening or closing Saturday, depending on department activities and member availability. Depending on the year, I may distribute flyers at a local grocery store.
That's not to say that focusing on FPW is a bad idea, it's just that I strongly beleive that prevention and education should be spread pretty evenly arond during the year. There are other departments that like to put much of thier efforts in FPW, which is fime if it works for them, but to me, the message needs to perculate into the public rather than be dumped all at once from a bucket.
Generally I will develop my fire prevention and education plans for the uopcoming 12-month cycle during the summer with Sept. 1 as the start date.
We kick-off our school programs in late September, and there may be activities that occur iin the school during that week, but they are not scheduled with the intent of taking place during FPW.
This year and last year our biggest problem is the dry weather and the related problem of brush fires. We are currently under a burn ban, but we still have folks who just have to burn, and seem to not understand what the words "exceptional drought" mean.
Other problems are the typical cooking and heating-related fires.Train to fight the fires you fight.
