Just made an account to meet/discuss things with people in same career field. I'm 23, recent graduate from Texas A&M University, a volunteer fire fighter with my county and certified EMT-B currently in a paramedic program. I hope to be hired on to a department within the next year hopefully.
I love the fire/EMS field and cannot wait to continue on with this career choice. I'm hoping to get hired on after I finish medic school, I've tested a couple of times before I had my EMT cert and it was a good learning experience. I'd love to go to TEEX fire academy if I get the chance but I'm really hoping to get paid to be sent to fire academy, wherever that academy may be lol
Anything else anyone wants to know, feel free to ask!
Thanks!
J

Hi Fire.Medic10! I'm also new, and I love EMS. I try to see every day as a learning experience, as I've been certified as an EMT-B for only a little over a year. Good luck to you in the paramedic program, and welcome to Firehouse.com!

Teex?
Hi, I am also new to this site. I have been in the Wildland Fire service for the past 7 years, just finished college, and am planning to go to TEEX to attend the Fire Academy and get my Paramedic. The idea behind this is that it might bump me up in the applicant pool. Is this an ideal route to take, or would it just be a waste of time. Additionally, my wife will be finishing her masters around the same tie I'd (hopefully) be finishing TEEX, so I need to find the best way to be highly considered by a diverse amount of cities/department because we will both be sending out applications nation-wide and she will most likely get something to bite first. I AM IN SERIOUS NEED OF ADVICE. If TEEX is not a great route, what is? Thanks for your time.

No department cares where you get your TCFP cert. TEEX, any community college fire academy, departmental academy or private fire academy. The only one they raise an eye to is online fire academies, but those people get hired all the time too.
My advise would be get your EMT-B first, it is harder than getting your Firefighter cert. Then get your firefighter, after EMT it will feel like a breeze. Then you are able to be hired in many places. Continue up to EMT-P afterwards, but you are still hirer-able while you complete the process.~Drew
