I believe the agreement was based on concessions with hialeahs holiday pay.
It was literally to the 11th hour. My best friend and his cousin were driving to station 1 to turn in there gear (after 6 years on the job) .. they both have kids.. homes.. cars.. it was pretty humbling seeing the family scramble trying to prepare for everything since october 1st. Geez, Having everything ripped from you like that in one meeting..Makes you really think about how involved we should all be with our Departments and our Unions. They literally had to fight for there rights..Well, Turns out the mayor needed a bone thrown at him and at the end good news came about!
Thank God for there union and how it backed the department more than there own chief did! Slick is Hialeah FDs version of William Wallace!!
and another thing.. shoutout to everybody that came to show support for Hialeah. A couple guys from my department came and there was a lot of love! This is a brotherhood!!
Amen. Very happy for those guys and their families. With all of the bull**** going on around us it is nice to hear some good news. Congrats guys. Hialeah rocks.
Wow, good for the citizens and the Brothers. Hopefully Mayor Mutt will be gone soon. Good luck to all the Brothers down there, hopefully they will have better job security.
First I want to thank everyone who gave their support whether in person, online, or elsewhere. It was truly amazing to see how everyone came together as a brotherhood, it was surreal to see the show of support.
Without going too far into details here is a quick summary.
Hialeah FD gave up "holiday pay" for the next two holidays, this will keep the 23 of us that were laid off in the first wave to stay on the job until November 30th, 2011. The deal also included that the mayor must give the union complete access to the books and negotiations will continue to come to an agreement based on the REAL numbers. Elections are Nov. 1st, and that will likely determine quite a few things.
Slick, Pico and the rest of our union has done a PHENOMENAL job. Those guys have gone to hell and back to give us a fighting chance. It's been quite the roller-coaster!
