Meaford Fire Dept. Receives WTC Artifact
Wednesday, 12 October 2011 07:36 Media Release News - Community News
The Meaford and District Fire Department has been one of very few Canadian municipalities chosen to receive a commemorative artifact from the World Trade Centre.
A one-tonne steel beam from the World Trade Centre has arrived at the Meaford and District Fire Hall and will remain here for all to remember and pay respect to the victims who lost their lives in the 9/11 tragedy.
The Port Authority of New Jersey and New York has been in charge of the eerie artifact warehouse and is now sending about 1200 pieces from Hangar 17 to places around the world to be used in memorials commemorating the 9/11 attacks.
There are approximately 11 remnants from the ruins of the Twin Towers that are destined for or have arrived in communities across Canada. The communities stretch from coast to coast and include Nanaimo, B.C., Calgary, Belleville, ON., Corner Brook, N.L., and Berwick, N.S.
The unveiling will take place on Friday, October 14th, 2011 at 11:00am, followed by a remembrance ceremony and reception at the Meaford and District Fire Hall at 81 Stewart Street in Meaford.
