The Board of Fire & Police Commissioners, City of Pontiac, Illinois, is accepting applications to establish an eligibility list. Applications can be picked up between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Pontiac Fire Department, Public Safety Complex, 413 N. Mill St., Pontiac, IL 61764; online at www.pontiac.org. in the downloads section, or will be mailed upon request.

Deadline for filing is 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the Public Safety Complex lobby. A $25 fee must be enclosed at the time of filing.

The board will begin the testing process with MANDATORY Orientation Wednesday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Training Room at the Public Safety Complex. FAILURE TO ATTEND ORIENTATION WILL PREVENT FURTHER APPLICATION.

Physical ability will be held Saturday, November 19 at 9:00 a.m. at the Pontiac Fire Department. The written exam will be held Saturday, November 19 after the physical ability test at the Pontiac Rec Center, 900 N. Elm St.


High school graduate or equivalent; citizen of the United States; good physical condition; 21 years of age and not reached 35 years of age, except as provided by Illinois Statutes; minimum vision of 20/50 uncorrected; 20/20 corrected; shall not be colorblind; valid driverís license with good record; become a resident of Pontiac, per contract; psychological and polygraph plus physical examination required before recommendation.


Current start salary $37,557; health, dental, vision and life insurance; paid vacation, sick time, holidays and Kelly days; pension plan; uniforms furnished.
