How have all the people who were walk in's done? Everyone managed to get a spot to test? I'm flying out tomorrow night. So I'll have Wed, Thurs, and Fri morning to get a shot. I figure between the 3 days, I should be fine. I'll probably plan on a 5am time Wed and go earlier the next morning if I need to.

When I tested the beginning of last month I arrived at 4:45 and was 6th in line but made it in to test (I think they took 10 walking that day). The first guy I think showed up at 2am. If you have 3 days I'd think you're fine but if you don't get in the first day you might want to go a lot earlier than 5 to be safe. Good luck though!

agree with above, i think you will probably be good around 4ish, but it is really up to you. I got in and I showed up around the same time 430ish, but if I had to do it again I would probably get there earlier, just to make sure (i was number 7, 10 got in my day). If you have three days, I think you would be able to get in one of the days. You are basically hoping for cancels and no-shows. My day had 6 cancels, 3 no -shows, and 1 persons showed up late, who they did not let in. So if you do have an app, make sure you show up on time because they are more than happy to turn you away.

In regards to the comment about what the deal is when you line up early, when I went the guard there was very nice and let us in as soon as we showed up, dont know if that is normal, but it was freezing, so it was very cool of him to let us stay inside.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Just to play it safe I'll try and get there 4:00 or 4:30. If I can get the test done my first day, then I have a few days to play tourist. So what's getting up a little earlier for the job I want.

I heard from a guy with our dept that they let you into the building and then they have you sign in so they know who got there first. After that he said he napped until the building opened up. It was another cold night though so maybe they make exceptions on those nights.

I've got an appointment and I'm still leaving the house at 5am to give me plenty of drive time (out of town) and flat tire/accident/highway striping (it's happened)/construction/oh crap time. What's a few extra lost hours of sleep for a shot at a great dept.

    Hey Guys -

I know I could probably figure this out online, but any idea when we can expect to hear our results from the exam? Just curious and guessing that somebody here might have some inside info. Thanks for your time.

The letter they gave me after the test said that we should hear about the results mid-march

Made it out there and got in to test on my first shot. I was there right at 4:30. A few other walk in's showed up after me. I think we all made it though. Everyone there was super nice and friendly.

From what I was told, it sounds like they expect around 2400 applicants total. I was told there will be at least one class this year. Possibably two, depending on the budget. However, this list will be a two year list. If they can't bring on both classes this year, then there will be another class next year.

Glad to hear you got a spot.

That number for applicants sounds high though. Where did you hear that? Purely logistically they are testing for 41 days and I believe they have 36 testing stations max so that brings us in at a high of just under 1500 possible applicants. Maybe I'm missing something....

Thanks, I'm glad I was able to get in as well. That way I was able to enjoy some play time out there afterwards. The info I got was straight from the lady who escorted us upstairs. She was the same one on the video we watched. She pretty much said they had 1400 or so "appointments" and were expecting around 1000 walk in's during the testing. I'm sure that was just a rough number for walk in's since the testing is still going on. So I'm just going off what she said to our group.

Oh, I gotcha. Yeah I think those numbers overlap in that of the 1400 that had appointments, 1000 of those will be given to walkins because of no shows.

    That's a lot of walkins!

The HR lady said that wouldn't be determined till after all the tests were done. I'm guessing they will look at the scores and take the top 10% or 20% to move on to the next round.

Straight from their site: (sorry for the spacing weirdness, just cut and pasted)
Ranking – Final Examination Score - Examination List: Applicants who pass the Written Test will be
ranked based on the sum of their scores on two of the four components of the test: Emotional Outlook
and Interpersonal Skills. The sum of the test scores on these two components is the “Composite Written
Test Score”. An applicant’s Final Examination Score is the Composite Written Test Score plus any
Military Veteran Preference Points and/or Special Skill Preference Points for Language Proficiency, as
applicable. The Final Examination Score is the score used to rank applicants on an examination list for
selection for additional testing and screening. Ties shall be broken randomly.

In the past they start processing the first group right away by having them come back for further testing. There is a pass/fail grading for the initial written exam according to their site, but it doesn't say what the score is.

I don't know an exact number on how many they move on right away though but I heard they process 3x the amount they need for their next academy. Max academy size is 24 and 1/4 of that is potentially offered to cadets from their explorer program. I'm not sure if that program is still running with budget cuts though. So based on those numbers (*purely just a guesstimate off numbers I've heard mind you*) I think they would be looking at moving the first 54 guys on the list (18 x 3).

Then a few months later they start processing later ranks. Keep in mind that this isn't an indicator at all of potential academy classes however. They will process people regardless of if there are any academies slated for '12 or '13 so they have an active hiring list to pull from if an academy appears on the radar.

If anyone else has any different info though, throw it out there. Like I said, this is just speculation based off of some facts I know for sure, past testing processes and some guesswork. What else am I gonna do for the 2 months while I wait to test?

    Default Cpat

Just found some tentative CPAT testing dates on their site:

    1st CPAT Mentoring Session – April 15, 2012

    2nd CPAT Mentoring Session – May 5, 2012

    1st CPAT Practice Session – May 19, 2012

    2nd CPAT Practice Session – June 2, 2012

    Final CPAT Administration – June 16, 2012

Also in the past if you pass during either of the practice sessions you don't have to come back for the final.

yjbrody - Do you know if they take a CPAT card or if you have to take their test?

They don't. In past years they make you take their test, but you get a CPAT cert out of it for free that is good for a year.

No kidding... I just took mine on Sat and it's already killing me to find out.

We had at least 7 walkins get in on Sat. Maybe more, but I didn't bother to ask when I left. The woman checking us in said we may hear earlier than the mid march stated on the info sheet they gave us. Here's hoping.
