Default Berkeley Plantation in Virginia celebrates first Thanksgiving

I know this will disturb the folks in New England, but.......

Berkeley Plantation in Virginia celebrates first Thanksgiving!!

After reaching land on Dec. 4, 1619, to settle the 8,000-acre land grant that is now Berkeley, the Englishmen dropped to their knees and thanked God for their safe voyage.

"Can you imagine, just under 400 years ago that ship landed and they came ashore," said H. Graham Woodlief, president of the Virginia Thanksgiving Festival and a direct descendant of Captain Woodlief. "It's just amazing that this happened on these grounds."

Woodlief says Virginia's claim to the first American Thanksgiving in 1619 was ratified in a proclamation by President John F. Kennedy in 1963, though the 1621 Thanksgiving by the Pilgrims at Plymouth, Mass., is often described as the first.

I am now a past chief and the views, opinions, and comments are mine and mine alone. I do not speak for any department or in any official capacity. Although, they would be smart to listen to me.
